Summary:
The Research Student reports to the Principal Investigator or assigned program manager/supervisor, providing assistance to the project staff, as needed.

Responsibilities:

For Clinical Research Programs: Conducts research protocols in conjunction with project staff, which may include, but are not limited to: (1) data entry, data cleaning, data analyses, and data programming tasks as needed, (2) assisting in the recruitment of participants including telephone screening efforts, (3) assisting research assistants in participant visits, (4) assisting in the collection, processing and storing of various biospecimens, (5) literature reviews.

May serve as a liaison to research participants, reminding them of upcoming clinical appointments and monitoring progress between visits

For Basic Research Programs: Under supervision of the Principal Investigator or designee, perform basic laboratory experiments in the program field. May include such activities as pipetting, tissue culture, data analysis, and other experimental procedures.

Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives.

Performs other related duties as required.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Must be a matriculating student in a 4-year college program.

EXPERIENCE:

No experience needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal laboratory environment - requires standing, bending, sitting, use of major and minor equipment and computers. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common laboratory and office equipment.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Incumbent functions independently within established laboratory protocol guidelines, and/or human subject guidelines, referring specific problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.

None.
