Machinist


1st Shift


Monday - Friday 6am to 2pm


Wage Range: $25.00 to $32.00 based on experience



Position Summary

Machinist - Level I is an entry level (having less than 5 years of experience) position working closely with more experienced machinists learning how to use all the tools and equipment in the machine shop to support manufacturing.



This position may also require formal training (through a partnership with HVCC or BOCES) to be a certified CNC operator. They report to the Engineering Manager and will join a team of Machinists, Tool & Die Makers, Production Engineers and Maintenance Personnel. They will be responsible for machining parts to specifications using a variety of manual/CNC machine tools and assisting with maintenance by performing the following duties.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Support production personnel by troubleshooting, repairing production equipment, tools and dies.
  • Assists in building tooling and integration of new equipment and processes
  • Set-up, adjust and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to program CNC machine tools
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts to find defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using a variety of measurements and inspection instruments
  • Study drawings, sample parts and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate parts and determine part dimensions and tolerances
  • Complete maintenance and preventative maintenance workorders
  • Takes initiative and offers ways to improve the manufacturing operation
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends. Mandatory overtime may be required.



qualifications and education

  • Associate's degree in advanced manufacturing technologies or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 1 Year solid work experience preferred
  • Experience with CAD/CAM or equivalent
  • Experience with CNC machinery or manual machining knowledge preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Experience with manual machining is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred
  • Has good mechanical aptitude
  • Knows how to use various machine shop equipment and tools
  • Understands drawing standards and has a familiarity with and the ability to work from mechanical drawings
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Can do - positive attitude
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pounds
  • Ability to work overtime or occasional time on the weekend as required
