ATI Millersburg is seeking a Technician for our Metallurgical Laboratory. The person in this role will report to the Metallurgical Laboratory Sr. Leader and work in conjunction with other laboratory leaders to facilitate various laboratory needs. This is a swing shift position, typically working Monday-Friday from 2:00 pm- 10:00 pm with some flexibility in hours. The Metallurgical Lab Technician position is primarily responsible for supporting ATI Millersburg's Metallurgical Laboratory and will perform metallographic analysis on metals using various instrumentation and polishing methods to make sure our alloys are meeting customer specifications. You will have some variety in your day to day and it will range from general laboratory tasks to coordinating projects with laboratory customers.

In order to become successful, you will have to quickly grasp ATI's processes, work collaboratively with multiple departments and stakeholders, have a flexible personality, be comfortable using hand tools, and be exceptional at troubleshooting and understanding instruments. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), exceptional interpersonal skills and being mechanically inclined are included in the skillset of a successful Laboratory Technician.

Responsibilities



  • Prepare various metallurgical testing samples by means of dimensioning, sectioning, and surface preparations
  • Perform visual appearance evaluations on various tested metallurgical samples.
  • Determine adherence to customer specifications
  • Operation of various metallurgical laboratory equipment
  • Perform laboratory specific calibration tasks
  • Use technical skills and background to identify problems and implement effective solutions
  • Report data to laboratory customers

Basic Qualifications



  • Must have a minimum of an Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory or quality experience


OR



  • A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and at least three years of laboratory research, testing and analysis experience


Requirements



  • The ability to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) Security Clearance
  • Candidates must be willing and able to provide information necessary to verify eligibility and receive authorization to access Controlled Unclassified Information related to U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Department of Energy programs. Verification and authorization may be required from (1) the U.S. Government, (2) the security organizations of ATI's customers in the U.S. Government's defense and national security supply chains, or (3) ATI's Law Department.



Preferences



  • Minimum of 1 year laboratory experience in a metallurgical testing lab preferred
  • Experience with basic metal section tools such as bandsaw, abrasive saw, grinders
  • Experience with basic metallography preparation techniques such as sectioning, grinding, polishing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Must be comfortable working with hazardous chemicals and acids. All work is done under a fume hood and with proper PPE
  • Ability to follow procedures with accuracy
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to support metallurgical testing lab operations
  • Strong metallurgical destructive testing base of knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical information
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs

Salary Range: $46,000 to $60,000/annually +
