Position Highlights |
Arizona Public Media (AZPM) is seeking a multimedia News and Public Affairs Reporter to cover stories about Tucson and southern Arizona. You'll join a team of reporters who create unique stories about the southwest for our Southern Arizona radio, television, and online audiences. The successful candidate will be an accomplished radio, television or digital reporter who tells news stories with sound and video when possible. The reporter is able to report on topics as assigned.
High-quality work on deadline will be essential in our multimedia environment, as will the ability to work cohesively with a team, both internally with the news and production staff members and externally with partner stations. The primary assignment of this position will be reporting on business, the economy, transportation, infrastructure and development by producing daily news spots and longer-form features. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Research, develop, write, and produce daily news stories for public radio and digital audiences with general knowledge and use of principles, theories, and concepts.
- Perform work with moderate guidance, exercising judgment, produce high-quality work that is accurate, fair, balanced, and professional.
- Adhere to AZPM's Code of Editorial Ethics and Practices and AZPM's Editorial Standards.
- Meet daily deadlines.
- Operate field audio equipment and audio editing systems with general knowledge and use of principles, theories, and concepts.
- Perform work with moderate guidance, exercising judgment and take digital photos or video for all stories for digital use.
- Cultivate sources and resources in the areas of business, the economy, politics, water issues, immigration - including connections to local government, businesses and non-profits, as well as exploring the connection to these topics of state and federal laws and policies, finding local stories that illustrate how changes in these policies affect local issues.
- Develop and produce longer feature stories that can be used across all platforms.
- Work with other editorial partners when assigned.
- Operate University of Arizona vehicles to travel to conduct interviews and/or capture audio.
- Collaborate with other AZPM reporters and producers on enterprise stories.
- Rework all broadcast stories for posting for online and social media, adding additional audio, data, links, charts and maps as directed.
- Substitute/back-up anchor for radio and television newscasts on as-needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of how to incorporate data and data visualization into reports.
- Working knowledge of audio editing systems (e.g. Adobe Audition, Audacity).
- Working knowledge of online search and social media tools.
- Working knowledge of television reporting.
- Working knowledge of multimedia production.
- Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- A minimum of three years of reporting work in a television or radio newsroom experience is required

Preferred Qualifications |
- Live on-air radio or television news reporting experience preferred.
- PBS and NPR experience is preferred.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
