The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.

In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator (Pesticide Safety Education Program) for the Department of Entomology within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station ( NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they live. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Manages the New Jersey Pesticide Safety Education Program by providing pesticide and regulatory information to a variety of audiences, including farmers, landscapers, pest management professionals, and master gardeners and the public.
  • Develops, delivers, and distributes PowerPoint presentations, NJAES factsheets and bulletins, training manuals and websites under the auspices of the Rutgers Pest Management Office website.
  • Creates material on pesticide safety and regulations for grower production recommendation guides.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in entomology, plant science, plant pathology, weed science, or other agriculturally related field.
Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position.

  • NJDEP Commercial Pesticide Applicators License for Category 1A or the application of said license shortly after employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with pesticides, toxicology, and agriculture.


Equipment Utilized
  • Computers and knowledge of MS Office software, website development software and online training platforms.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to field questions on a variety of questions regarding pesticides and their regulation from a diverse group of stakeholders on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
