DESCRIPTION


Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for visual media and digital innovation? This dynamic role puts you at the forefront of content creation-where you'll craft compelling news stories, eye-catching promotional videos, and powerful documentary-style productions. From concept to final cut, you'll play a key role in shaping the voice and vision of our digital communications.

The primary function of this position is to produce, shoot, and edit both short and long-form news stories, promotional video pieces, and documentary-style productions using an array of digital and multimedia tools. This role is specifically tasked with the creation and production of new and existing digital communications initiatives, as well as producing news stories, videos, photography, and other promotional content.

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the class.
  • Video production, to include: storyboarding, planning, script-writing, filming, editing, color grading, and proofing videos.
  • Photo production, to include both editorial and event photography.
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns.
  • Facilitate department trainings and other related creative content.
  • Assist with various marketing and outreach programs online and on multiple social media channels.
  • Creation and distribution of releases and newsletters to media and/or email group.
  • Provide direction to and reviews the work of temporary employees, interns, and volunteers.
  • Conduct research to provide audio and visual support for content.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Recommended 3 years' experience in journalism, and/or filmmaking and photography.
  • Associate's or Technical degree in Broadcast Journalism, Film, or Digital Media; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Licensing/Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License or other means that would allow for the ability to visit various City facilities and meeting sites.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 6 months of employment, a valid Remote Pilot Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment (expenses covered by the City).

Knowledge of:

  • Technical knowledge of film production equipment
  • Adobe Creative Suite software
  • Storytelling & Journalism

Skill in:

  • Cinema, Mirrorless and DSLR cameras
  • Drone operation and aerial photography
  • Audio equipment, and lighting equipment

Applications for this recruitment will be accepted through Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 10am. Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to a virtual HireVue interview. Candidates who pass the virtual HireVue interview will be invited to the in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for September 30, 2025. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
