DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the onsite sewage treatment plant, ensuring its effective operation and maintenance, while also managing the custodial staff who maintain the cleanliness of the roadside rest facility along I-70. Your duties will include conducting sampling and testing of both influent and effluent to assess various parameters such as pH levels, chlorine residual, settleable solids, and biochemical oxygen demand, thereby ensuring the safety and environmental compliance of the effluent. You will interpret the test results and administer chemicals as necessary to maintain optimal treatment conditions.

Additionally, you will perform and supervise all preventative and operational maintenance tasks related to the sewage treatment plant, which encompasses pumps, motors, valves, and other critical components. Keeping meticulous logs of meter readings, chemical usage, and maintenance activities will be essential, as you will also be responsible for preparing and submitting reports as required. Furthermore, you will ensure that the rest area is adequately stocked with essential supplies, including treatment materials, lavatory items, and cleaning products, and will requisition additional supplies as needed. In your supervisory role, you will manage the custodial staff, coordinating work schedules to guarantee proper coverage across all shifts. Lastly, you will be tasked with executing the activities outlined in the District's Strategic Environment Management Program (SEMP) Manual, as well as fulfilling the environmental management obligations associated with this role as specified in relevant training programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

  • One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the Class D, Subclass 1.
  • This position requires possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the Class Dc, Subclass 7, 8, 9.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
