DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will be integral to maintaining the safety and efficiency of our roadways, particularly during the demanding winter months when snow removal is crucial. Your responsibilities extend beyond just clearing snow; you will also engage in various construction projects that directly influence the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public. Each day presents unique challenges that require physical labor, underscoring the significance of collaboration and commitment among team members.
In your role, you will not only operate heavy machinery but also be responsible for performing minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance on your equipment and trucks. This includes keeping detailed records, as you will be required to complete daily logs and reports that document equipment usage and maintenance history. - Full-time employment
- Shifts may vary: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; 4:00 PM to 12:00 midnight or 12:00 midnight to 8:00 AM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require overtime as needed.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
