JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Eberly College of Science Office of Science Outreach is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated undergraduate or graduate students to join our team as Eberly Outreach Ambassadors. As an Eberly Outreach Ambassador, you will conduct engaging lab tours and STEM activities, promote science self-efficacy, collaborate with faculty to showcase research, and assist in recruiting and coordinating high school participants. Additionally, you will support events such as Penn State's ENVISION Supporting Young Women in STEM, Haunted-U, and Exploration-U, and help recruit other students to volunteer and work with our programs. Note that some of these programs will occur on weekends and evenings. Compensation for this position is $15.00 an hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engaging lab tours and STEM activities for high school students.

  • Promote increased science self-efficacy among participants.

  • Collaborate with faculty members to showcase cutting-edge research.

  • Ensure compliance with youth safety guidelines during all activities.

  • Participate in specialized training sessions to enhance science communication skills.

  • Support Penn State's ENVISION Supporting Young Women in STEM event.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of Haunted-U and Exploration-U events.

  • Help recruit other Penn State students to volunteer for events throughout the academic year as well as apply to positions to work with Science-U summer camps.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Penn State.

  • Strong interest in science outreach and education.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and high school participants.

  • Prior experience in science communication or outreach is a plus.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
