Overview The Director of Development is a leadership role responsible for guiding the strategic direction of fundraising and development, program oversight, stakeholder engagement and compliance. This role oversees all aspects of development, with a primary focus on securing financial support through annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving. It includes soliciting, cultivating, and stewarding donors, while also serving as a visible and engaged member of the executive leadership team. Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy including ongoing fundraising training for leadership and Board members.
- Plan and implement the annual giving program that includes the development of donor circles, direct mail appeals, and collaborating with the program department on gift in kind efforts to cultivate donors for annual gifts.
- Manage and coordinate efforts to ensure donor retention, gift restriction compliance and revenue generation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current donors, prospects, leadership committee members and Board of Directors.
- Work with the VPs and Director of Communications to increase donor engagement through cultivation activities including the use of mission stories to assist in their efforts.
- Develop coordinated communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone, face-to-face visits, and fundraising volunteers, in coordination with corporate marketing and communication.
- Identify public and private local, state, and national grant opportunities matching agency mission, needs, goals, and strategic planning objectives and coordinate response activities.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, business, or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in development and fundraising.
- Experience executing annual fund campaigns, including digital marketing initiatives, social media fundraising, and online donor platform management.
- Experience securing major or planned gifts and grant writing preferred.
- Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
- Ability to interact with donors and ask for leadership annual gifts.
- Ability to initiate projects, be flexible, and work independently.
- Ability to prioritize appropriately when facing multiple responsibilities and tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
- Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.
