The Director of Prospect Strategy develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure the effective identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic prospects and donors to the Inova Health System. Ensures effective coding, tracking, and management of prospect information through all stages of the fundraising process. Conducts regular prospect review meetings while ensuring all gift officers have balanced and active prospect portfolios

Job Responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with senior leaders, frontline fundraisers, and prospect strategy team colleagues to plan, develop, and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic prospects and donors to Inova Health System.
  • Assists in the creation of specific gift officer performance metrics and helps to develop systems to measure them.
  • Assists in the evaluation, negotiation, purchase, and renewal of research resources, publications, and services.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure effective projections and forecasts for gift officer productivity.
  • Assists in identifying new major gift prospects through the identification and acquisition of prospect screening tools, major gift donor analysis/modeling, and database mining.
  • Assists gift officers in the development of fundraising strategies for donors and prospects. Conducts fundraiser portfolio analyses and portfolio review meetings, creates accompanying data, and advises fundraisers on the use of reports, dashboards, and other tools to manage portfolios.
  • Develops research profiles, briefings, due diligence research, prospect lists, capacity ratings, network maps, and other research intelligence on prospects and donors.
  • Establishes and maintains production and quality control standards for all research materials with respect to accuracy, content, presentation, and consistency.
  • Drives fundraiser proficiency in the use of prospect management systems and tools through training sessions and outreach to ensure compliance with prospect management policies and procedures
  • Oversees the department to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 6 years of related experience in fundraising, prospect strategy or philanthropy roles.
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of people leadership experience
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare system is highly preferred
  • Experience in non-profit fundraising prospect strategy and utilizing data to advise gift officers on portfolio management

This is a hybrid role with 3 days/week onsite expectations. $10,000 relocation bonus available as needed.
