Safety Supervisor (PE&O)

Summary
The position provides support to the other departments and operating units relative to emergency response, compliance and safe execution of work. Individuals in this position provide supervision to other safety department personnel such as Safety Coordinators and Safety Technicians. Individual will routinely interact with individuals as well as functional groups executing all types of activities in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of all personnel on-site. Whenever appropriate, promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental incidents or issues to management so the situation can be corrected. Attend Monthly Safety meetings to help prevent off-site and on-the-job accidents.
2. Supervision:
a) Implement training and development programs for safety department personnel reporting to the position.
b) Conduct annual performance evaluation for safety department personnel reporting to the position.
c) Supervise safety department personnel in daily work.
3. Fire Brigade:
a) This position leads Fire Brigade as Captain.
b) As such, is responsible for ensuring rosters across all shifts are staffed, that personnel or trained and equipped at all times to levels suitable for high hazard industrial firefighting.
c) Ensures all firefighting equipment is maintained and available for use at all times.
d) Also ensures equipment is up to date relative to technology and mandated life cycles.
e) Position is required to maintain their training levels as well expand the level as process and chemistry changes are made on site.
4. Fire Water Systems:
a) Is primary resource that ensures site fire water systems are tested, maintained and ready for services.
b) Helps assure all related activities associated with FM Global Recommendations completed by assisting with securing bids, acquiring FM Global design approvals and following field work during project execution.

5. Rescue Team Leader:
a) This position leads the Industrial Rescue team.
b) As leader, is responsible for ensuring rosters across all shifts are staffed, that personnel or trained and equipped at all times to levels suitable for execution of high elevation industrial rescue.
c) Ensures all rescue equipment is maintained and available for use at all times.
d) Also ensures equipment is up to date relative to technology and mandated life cycles.
e) Position is required to maintain their training levels as well expand the level as needed.
6. Field Support:
a) Participates in the safe work permitting process by being actively involved in the development of Safe Work Permits, including sign-off responsibilities.
b) Participates in the Job Safety Analysis process and helps ensure completion of high quality and documented JSA's.
c) Frequently conducts safe-work, system and work condition audits.
d) Inspects and maintains safety related and emergency response equipment in order to ensure accessibility of safe reliable equipment.
e) Participates in Pre start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR's).
f) Acts as safety resource to the various customers of the HSE Department by providing effective solutions, answers and inputs as necessary to address concerns and or obstacles to safe work.
g) Assist in accident, injury, near miss, and unsafe conditions investigations.
7. Training:
a) Provide / assist with the delivery of safety related training to Westlake employees and contractors as needed.
8. Medical:
a) Provide backup coverage and perform first responder duties as allowable up to individual qualifications when needed.
9. Emergency:
a) During an emergency, fill functional needs necessary for the complex to address the situation in a safe and efficient manner.

10. Relief:
a) Assume duties of other Department members as needed during sickness, vacation, and other departmental absences.
b) Assist in developing and revising HSE procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
* A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.

* Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
* Minimum of 10 years field experience in industrial safety, health, and or fire protection systems.
* Requires skills necessary to educate and train employees in general health and safety principles and techniques.
* Multi-task orientated.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including fire retardant clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes or boots. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
