This position organizes, implements, and directs various plant environmental control programs to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensures compliance of the storage areas within areas of control.

  • Schedules, conducts, and performs routine inspections necessary to comply with Federal and State regulations, including but not limited to container and storage areas.

  • Schedules and determines the frequency and methodology for environmental sampling and analysis necessary to comply with Federal and State permit requirements, waste profiling, and spill clean-up to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Schedules and coordinates pickup and disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous waste, recyclables, universal waste, and used oil for the facility in a manner that ensures compliance.

  • Preparing periodic environmental reports.

  • Maintains knowledge regarding impending regulations which affect operating controls for the Plant. Makes recommendations to management and oversees implementation of new or changing requirements.

  • Maintains, updates and revises departmental procedures.

  • Assists in process engineering projects by providing environmental support by interpreting and making decisions on the applicability of various environmental requirements.

  • Provides for effective lines of communication between environmental and other departments, groups or business areas which relate.

  • Assists in the procurement and maintenance of environmental control programs.

  • Ensures document organization, management and retention of regulatory requirements and information in a timely manner to meet all Federal and State regulations and requirements, as well as internal policies and practices, covering air, water, and waste programs.

  • Participates in a 24 hour on-call duty rotation. Gathers and evaluates data and other information to determine when to make reports to appropriate governmental agencies.

  • Communicates regularly with plant operating personnel to apprise them of environmental regulatory requirements.

  • Reviews and evaluates various regulations from federal, state, local and corporate sources and determines the applicability of those regulations.

  • Evaluates, provides for, and participates in environmental training provided to the plant annually or as needed.

  • Participates in incident investigations and recommends solutions on the necessary corrective actions required for mitigation and prevention of environmental incidents.

  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

  • Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on projects teams.

  • Maintains forklift certification. This position will be required to drive company vehicles from time to time.

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.

  • Participates in the PACE culture of safety.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, or related field is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant environmental experience in chemical manufacturing, consulting or regulatory role is desired.

  • Knowledge of chemical plant operations preferable

  • Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheet applications, and the ability to learn all company software applications and databases

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, verbal and written

  • Able to work independently and make decisions within the scope of responsibilities

  • Must possess high level of integrity in dealing with confidential issues
