Description
- The Drafter position requires the person to demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently complete technical drawing tasks.
- Ensure accuracy of drawings/files developed and work productively and efficiently throughout the workday.
- Liaise with architects and engineers to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
- Calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements.
- Describe production methods step-by-step, including equipment and software to be used.
- Be ultimately responsible for the accuracy of drawings and files developed and their level of productivity.
- Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
- Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
Education
- Preferably high school diploma or equivalent.
- BSc in Engineering, Architecture, or degree from a technical college.
Experience
- Preferably 3 years minimum experience in AutoCAD and/or TEKLA or equivalent.
- Experience drafting for subsea structures, offshore equipment, or heavy industrial components.
- Familiarity with API, AWS, or ASME codes and standards.
- Experience generating fabrication-level drawings for aerospace, subsea, or heavy structural applications.
- Knowledge of PDM/PLM systems and revision/document control practices.
- Prior experience collaborating directly with fabrication shops, welders, and fitters.
Duties
- Produce shop drawings in AutoCAD/TEKLA for all yard and offshore projects, including piece mark drawings, cut sheets, templates, weights, and support drawings.
- Develop cut files for automated pipe, plate, and beam cutters.
- Nest material to assist with material ordering.
- Produce models and material take-offs to support estimating.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward all internal and external clients.
- Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow.
- Prepare and review rough sketches and collaborate with the engineering team for review.

Requirements
- Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar 3D modeling tools).
- Strong knowledge of structural steel and subsea fabrication practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, codes, and specifications.
- Understanding of welding symbols, tolerances, and fabrication standards.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
