About the Job

Summary of Position
This position will lead or participate in the cell biology and molecular biology studies including cell culture, plasmid preparation, cloning, protein purification and enzymatic assays. The position will also perform laboratory management including inventory, ordering and routine lab maintenance.

Job Duties
60%, Conduct experiments. Perform basic cell biology and analytical chemistry experiments, including cell culture and treatment, cloning, protein purification, enzymatic assays and proteomic sample preparation.

10%, Design experiments. Design the routine experiments based on existing protocols or with slight modification from existing protocols, on both a day-to-day and long-term basis. Design new experimental protocols based on literature and lab discussion and develop experimental plans to validate and apply the protocols.

5%, Prepare results for presentation. Compile the data, prepare figures/tables for manuscript and create posters and slide presentations for scientific meetings.

5%, Archive Data and Materials. Archive all experiments performed in the course of the study, as well as reagents and primary data generated; lead role in ensuring that a full record of the work as well as all strains, clones and reagents are maintained.

20%, Routine Laboratory Maintenance. Ongoing work in the lab requires maintenance of essential lab inventories, lab equipment including microscope, centrifuges, HPLC, spectrometers, a ready supply of solutions, chemicals and various lab materials.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in biology or related field with training on basic cell biology, molecular biology and organic chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree with postdoc experience in cell biology or molecular biology with extensive experience in cloning, protein purification, enzymatic assays and genetic engineering, with demonstrated knowledge on animal physiology, metabolism and epigenetics.

About the Department

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphasis on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $81,970.60 - $82,000.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
