DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
In this position, you will utilize your knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and food and milk safety protocols during inspections and investigations to assess food and milk products, as well as the facilities that handle them, ensuring compliance with established standards. You will undergo specialized training and conduct inspections related to Shellfish, FDA Contract Inspections, Farm Labor Camps, Juice HACCP, and any other assigned tasks. It is essential to meticulously document all data, adverse findings, and conditions to enable management to implement necessary corrective measures.
Additionally, you will review previous reports alongside current inspections or investigations, perform reinspections or reinvestigations of food facilities in accordance with existing policies and procedures, and maintain a comprehensive record-keeping system for all time-sensitive inspection activities. Your role will also involve accessing, inputting, retrieving, and transmitting information electronically, as well as evaluating and approving or disapproving plan reviews for new constructions, remodeled facilities, and changes in ownership to ensure adherence to relevant regulations, which requires a solid understanding of technical specifications as outlined by the Department. You will be responsible for approving applications for licenses, registrations, certificates, or permits while collecting the necessary fees, sampling food and milk products to assess safety and compliance, interpreting laboratory results, and investigating complaints related to food and milk products, sanitation conditions, and other pertinent issues. In emergency situations, such as truck and rail accidents, fires, power outages, and natural disasters, you will respond promptly to evaluate food safety.
Furthermore, you will prepare and present cases for the Commonwealth in court proceedings, recommend appropriate official actions such as warning letters, license suspensions, civil penalties, or administrative conferences, assist the regulated industry and the public with requested training programs, and foster collaborative relationships with all related agencies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require travel and overtime.
- This position will be home headquartered if candidate lives in Centre, Mifflin County, Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon, Juniata, Clearfield County. If candidate does not live one of these counties, the state vehicle will be parked in one of these counties.
- The selected candidate will need to travel to counties other then those listed on this posting to assist with coverage of various specialty inspection types, specifically Dairy and Milk regulated facilities.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Food Inspector 1, Agriculture (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in the inspection of food establishments or food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
