DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this important role, you will inspect privately owned dwellings leased or intended for leasing under the Section 8 rent subsidy programs. This includes any properties of additional housing programs assigned to the York Housing Authority. The Housing Inspector schedules and performs regular and special inspections for compliance with Housing Authority, HUD and local regulations and housing standards. Work includes evaluating dwellings prior to, during, and after occupancy to determine the presence of any current structural damage, utility system malfunctions, cleanliness and orderliness of unit. Included in your duties will be preparing and submitting inspection reports and maintaining all related records and files. Communication is key as you consult with property owners and tenants regarding requirements necessary to effectively complete inspection and meet requirements. You will be expected to keep abreast of changes in local codes and HUD housing standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in the area of building structure or maintenance inspection; or
- One year of building or trades experience which included work in the area of cost estimation; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which afforded the applicant the above required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

- Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within York County. If no eligible candidates who live within York County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
