DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this essential role, you will perform sanitation inspections of seasonal farm labor camps and various food facilities, including wholesale, retail, manufacturing, and warehousing, within designated regional areas. You will utilize a comprehensive understanding of laws, regulations, and food safety protocols during these inspections to assess compliance across a range of establishments, such as produce and dairy farms, retail outlets, and processing facilities. Engage in specialized training and inspections for various programs, including Shellfish, FDA Contract Inspections, and HACCP protocols, while also preparing detailed reports and documentation related to inspections for supervisory review. Additionally, your findings will inform critical decisions that affect food policies, regulations, and consumer safety. This position demands a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards, and you will utilize your analytical skills to draft comprehensive reports that document your inspections and provide insights for continuous improvement. Traveling to other counties outside of your assigned area to assist with coverage of vaious specialty inspection types, specifically Diary and Milk Regulated facilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be home-headquartered if the applicant lives in Montour, Columbia, Northumberland, or Lycoming County, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties, and the workday will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle.
  • Overtime and occasional overnight travel required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Food Inspector 1, Agriculture (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the inspection of food establishments or food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
