Coordinator of Student Conduct

Position Description
The Coordinator of Student Conduct (CSC) is responsible for directing, administering, and coordinating a comprehensive departmental student conduct program/process within Residential Life. The CSC ensures fair and consistent student conduct processes and is responsible for the education of students and staff regarding University policies and expectations. The CSC provides functional supervision of 17 full-time staff members who serve as hearing officers in the area of student conduct. This position is also responsible for managing HRL's security program in all residential facilities and for overseeing procedures related to addressing behavior concerns, such as serious mental health issues, that are not considered policy violations. This position reports to the Associate Director of Residential Life.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

Management of Student Conduct Process (45%)
* Oversee conduct case management for 12 residential communities and maintain student conduct records through managing a web-based software database (Maxient).
* Review all incident statements/reports, complaints, and correspondence to ensure reasonable consistency between staff and to ensure appropriate due process.
* Provide functional supervision of 17 full-time staff members who serve as hearing officers in the area of student conduct.
* Communicate with UMPD Lieutenants and Community Investigation Detectives on residential issues, UMPD citations, and confrontation and reporting procedures.
* Coordinate the formal hearing process, including serving as a hearing officer for formal hearings and training Assistant Directors in Residential Life as hearing officers.
* Administer conduct decisions up to and including contractual relocation, termination, and University-level probation.
* Coordinate with the Department of Public Safety regarding the security cameras within the residential facilities and submit requests to review images for investigative purposes ensuring that University guidelines are followed.
* Collaborate with UMPD to address and notify students of any safety/security alerts and concerns as they occur.
* Operate as the point person for any police investigations, warrants issued, serving as a resource for research and investigative information sought by the police.
* Coordinate the implementation of behavioral agreements for serious mental health issues.

Program Administration (30%)
* Oversee structure of the Security Service Level Agreement with the Department of Public Safety and evaluate overall effectiveness on an annual basis to determine program changes/enhancements.
* Coordinate the department's response to mental health concerns and reports of sexual misconduct.
* Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Student Support and Conflict Resolution on responding to bias-related and Title VI incidents.
* Direct and coordinate the crisis response actions for Housing & Residential Life for serious incidents (i.e. suicide attempts/completions, deaths) that occur in the residential communities.
* Assist with background checks for campus volunteers, and people who are mandated to include history of student conduct for career and educational purposes.
* Submit Annual Clery Report data to and complete the data necessary for the Biennial Review under the Drug Free School & Community Act.
* Coordinate all facets of Residential Life student conduct incident reports.
* Serve as liaison with University of Minnesota Police Department, area police departments, University Security, Boynton Health Services, Dean of Students, Student Legal Services, Student Conflict Resolution Center, Student Counseling Services, the Aurora Center for Advocacy and Education, Office of Community Standards, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Office of Student Affairs Care Program, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, and Student Advocate Services.
* Serve on various University committees such as Behavioral Consultation Team, the University Crisis Response Team, the University Care Team, and the Alcohol Policy and Abuse Prevention Committee.
* Serve as one of seven leaders within Residential Life to provide oversight and direction to building staff.
* Serve as the on call professional staff person on a regularly scheduled rotation with other professional staff members to provide direct crisis response to incidents involving students

Education & Training (25%)
* Develop and implement training for professional staff, student staff and University Security staff on the student conduct process, crisis management, confrontation and policy enforcement.
* Lead the Student Behavior and Learning Committee including implementation of fall and spring semester Safety Weeks.
* Consult and serve as a resource to professional and student staff on student conduct matters including prevention, intervention, confrontation, adjudication, and sanctioning.
* Develop, implement, and coordinate the facilitation of the Community Impact Sanction. Provide assessment of outcomes and make changes to curriculum as needed.
* Provide current resource information to staff and students on the following topic areas: alcohol, controlled substances, domestic violence, suicide, gambling, grief, and other social issues.
* Review and revise the residence hall regulations and their incorporation into the contract application process.
* Coordinate and maintain all student conduct related information for staff manuals.
* Coordinate research in the area of student conduct.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
* Requires BA/BS with at least 6 years of experience or a Master's degree plus four years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in College Student Personnel or other related field.
* Two years full-time, post Masters residential life, student conduct, or related experience.
* Previous experience in housing/residential student conduct or managing a system-wide judicial database system.
* Experience using Maxient student conduct software
* An ability to demonstrate commitment to Diversity and Social Justice.
* Excellent oral and written skills.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $68,000-$71,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
