With its broad and multidisciplinary faculty expertise, the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute ( EOHSI) is an international resource that supports basic and clinical research in environmental health sciences and exposure assessment and fosters associated programs in environmental health education and public policy.

Established in 1986, EOHSI's major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and occupational chemical exposures impact human health.
Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.

The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has opening for Public Health Representative III within the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, located in Piscataway, NJ. Under supervision, participates in the administration of the federally contracted World Trade Center Health Program at Rutgers. Conducts referral and pre-authorization requests to in network specialty providers. Assists in records management and provides administrative support for clinical operations. Works across the healthcare spectrum to coordinate patient care in adherence with programmatic guidelines and quality objectives.
Duties include:

  • Conducts referral and pre-authorization requests to in network specialty providers. Reviews incoming requests for administrative compliance with the WTC Health Program codebook.
  • Assists in records management via scanning and indexing into the EMR system and responding to external record requests in a timely manner.
  • Receives and manages incoming calls from patients and providers regarding program benefits, authorizations, and other member services related inquiries. Details actions and outcomes in the EMR and in appropriate databases.
  • Provides administrative support to clinical staff during daily patient visits. Assists with front desk tasks as needed.
  • Conducts education to program members, network providers, and interest groups on the World Trade Center Health Program. Assists in developing and disseminating educational materials in accordance with program initiatives. Supports retention initiatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, or related healthcare field.
  • One year of experience working in a clinical or other healthcare setting required.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

  • Knowledge of Epic EMR a plus.
