2026 Law Firm Administrative Intern Program

Chapman and Cutler LLP is seeking to hire Law Firm Administrative Interns in the Firm's Chicago office for the Summer of 2026. The Law Firm Administrative Interns will provide support to administrative departments within the Firm while learning more about the law firm environment.

PROGRAM AND APPLICATION DETAILS

We anticipate the program will run for eight weeks during June and July of 2026.

A complete application package must include the following items:

  • A cover letter (250 words or less) addressing what you believe demonstrates your qualifications for the Chapman and Cutler LLP Law Firm Administrative Intern Program, including how your unique experiences and background will contribute to the Firm's core values, including our collaborative culture, the Firm's commitment to environmental sustainability and ESG efforts, and our focus on finance.

Applications that do not include all of these components will not be considered.

The following includes recent examples of projects completed by interns:

  • Researching and summarizing various policies, wellness and benefits and compliance items, including new state legislation around breastfeeding accommodations; workplace opioid abuse; state legislation on new marijuana laws. (Human Resources)
  • Updating and automating New Hire Orientation presentations. (Human Resources)
  • Conducting research/competitive intelligence on financial wellness programs to assist the Firm in its efforts to support its attorneys and staff, culminating in a formal presentation of the findings to Firm leadership. (Business Operations)
  • Assisting with organizing key documents and information on the different types of employer-sponsored retirement plans and investment and savings vehicles. (Business Operations)
  • Helping prepare for and attending the Cook County Job Fair to greet and provide information to Summer Associate candidates. (Recruiting)
  • Reviewing and inputting resumes into the Applicant Tracking System, as well as learning and assisting the Recruiting team with the full cycle of On-Campus Interviewing at over a dozen law schools. (Recruiting)
  • Researching and preparing detailed background reports on peer firms and new clients. (Marketing)
  • Reviewing and analyzing the listing methodology and visibility/reach of key law industry league tables. (Marketing)

In addition, the program is structured to provide additional training, informational sessions, and social events, including:

  • Weekly breakfast meetings/informational overviews with different administrative departments at the Firm
  • Teambuilding exercises
  • Social events in the office and around the city (examples of prior events include: welcome receptions, escape room, architectural boat tour, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidates will have an interest in the legal industry and law school and thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment. Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies and have at least one semester of undergraduate studies remaining in order to be considered eligible.

  • Must be an excellent communicator, including the desire to ask questions and learn from coworkers
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to execute projects with a high level of efficiency and accuracy
  • Committed to excellent client service; professional demeanor and discretion required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adheres to work schedule and arrives to work in a reliable and punctual manner
  • Committed to following all Firm security protocols and maintaining information security
  • Able to work in the Chicago office for the duration of the program

In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the expected compensation for this Illinois position is $20.00/hour.
