FOX 5 Atlanta is a leading media organization dedicated to delivering high-quality news, sports specials, and studio productions across linear and digital platforms. We are seeking a talented Director/Technical Director (Director/TD) to join our team and ensure top-quality production for our viewers.

Job Summary:

The Director/TD is responsible for performing the technical work required to produce newscasts, sports specials, and other studio and livestream productions. This role is crucial in ensuring that viewers receive a top-quality product across all platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the production automation system, video switcher, and associated peripherals for live and recorded productions on all platforms.

  • Operate production equipment for digital livestream productions.

  • Code and direct shows in the automation system, achieving minimal errors on air.

  • Build new codes and effects on the video switcher as needed.

  • Utilize Bitcentral Precis playout, ISQ playout of Chyron Prime Graphics, Vinten Robotic camera controls, and Wheatstone audio console.

  • Maintain manual Director and Technical Director skills in the event of an automation failure.

  • Write a daily summary of shows and any errors, with explanations and repair needs for equipment.

  • Floor direct and co-pilot in the audio booth as needed, serving as backup to the director during shows and running audio.

  • Work in Master Control, switching basic live programming and segmenting program content.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a news control room environment.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize demands while meeting daily deadlines.

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with producers during planning, coding, and live broadcasts.

  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative and can complete assignments under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to multi-task is essential.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Varied shifts, vacation coverage, overtime, weekends, and holidays required.

  • Ability to successfully communicate with individuals in various disciplines and technical abilities.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

  • Bachelor's degree from a university or college preferred.

  • Two years of Directing/Technical Directing experience, ideally in a top 20 market television station.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $28.85-33.00 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
