The Associate Scientist will support environmental site assessment, remedial investigation, and remedial action projects by performing assignments such as site data collection, sample collection, data tabulation and analysis, procurement support, subcontractor and personnel supervision, and field work oversight. They will support a more senior scientist or project manager to provide accurate and pertinent scientific data according to agreed-upon methods, within established project schedules, procedures, and techniques; and to provide sound conclusions and recommendations based upon field investigations and literature reviews.
Expected Outcomes
  • Typically participates in field data collection and sampling efforts (e.g., water, soil, vapor)
  • Typically asked to collect pertinent field data, create tables/graphs, and provide observations of the data trends that will be used by other team members.
  • Take ownership of specific project tasks assigned by the project management team, including responsibility outside of normal work hours (e.g., evenings and weekends) as necessary.
  • Monitor and provide feedback to upper management on project safety and security aspects
  • May be asked to lead and/or supervise staff and/or subcontractor personnel on specific technical tasks such as field sampling activities and data reduction and analysis.
  • May solicit subcontracting bids and supervise subcontractors in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with technical project specifications and standard operating procedures defined in the project work scope and project plans.
  • Complete assigned projects on schedule and within budget to the satisfaction of the client and the project management team.
  • Monitor project performance, including the performance of subcontractors, when assigned the responsibility of task or project leader.
  • Develop consulting skills and sensitivity toward your client and key stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing specifications and procure subcontractors as directed by senior staff.
  • Cooperate with senior staff in carrying out project planning and management duties.
  • Cooperate with senior staff in developing appropriate project scopes, budgets and schedules for proposals and projects.
  • Provide recommendations to the appropriate supervisor when potential problems in project technical quality are identified.
  • Solve technical problems on projects with assistance from senior staff.
  • Cooperate with all project QA/QC audits and reviews and assist in implementing corrective action as appropriate.
  • Cooperate with senior staff to improve the technical quality of project work.
  • Demonstrate a high level of current discipline expertise for application to present and future projects.
  • Demonstrate data organization and management skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science (e.g., Geology) with 0-3 years of relevant field experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with groundwater, soil, and air sampling preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data concisely.
  • Ability to travel for fieldwork or meetings up to 75% of your time (i.e., 75% on island with up to 25% off island possible).
  • Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Complies with Weston Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and site-specific safety plans. Responsible for personal EHS compliance, and actively engages co-workers in EHS compliance. May serve in an EHS leadership role directing, mentoring, and training staff in EHS activities.
  • Ability to function in outdoor locations such as active construction and / or remediation sites.
  • Ability to walk long distances on varied terrain, climb ladders, and work at elevation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications.
  • Ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Employees in HTRW and Chemical fields will have the ability to meet requirements for functioning while wearing PPE.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $44,485-$58,323-$72,058
