Job Overview

The Senior, Labor Strategy & Contract Management is a key member of the Strategic Labor Initiatives Team, supporting the Labor Strategy Center of Expertise (COE). This role works closely with the Preventive Strategies Team to interpret and enforce contracts, ensuring consistency in policies, processes, and documentation. The Senior provides overall support to the Labor Strategy COE, recommends process improvements, and leads or assists with site assessments, negotiations, and special projects as needed.

What You Will Do



  • Interpret labor contracts and hold company leaders accountable for compliance.
  • Manage and respond to contractual grievances presented by union representatives by leveraging contractual knowledge, past practice, business strategy, and labor law; partner with the Labor Strategy and Negotiations Director as needed.
  • Track grievances and identify trends within collective bargaining agreements across the country and operating divisions; report findings and recommend solutions to the Labor Director.
  • Prepare and present critical data for the Chief Spokesperson to use during the collective bargaining process and for Preventive Strategies market trend analysis.
  • Represent Macy's in labor arbitrations and National Labor Relations Board proceedings
  • Conduct comprehensive cost analyses on negotiation points to determine the financial impact of contracts.
  • Partner with the Macy's Process Improvement team to develop new processes and reporting systems.
  • Educate store and supply chain leaders on potential contract violations to help prevent grievances.
  • Collaborate with Macy's Employment Attorneys on contract matters.
  • Support negotiations as needed, work with the Labor Relations Director on key special projects, and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Labor Strategy & Negotiations peers and the Preventive Strategies Team.
  • Support pre-negotiation and pre-petition workflows and other related COE activities as needed.
  • Assist the Labor Strategy and Contract Negotiations Director with creating PowerPoint decks and Excel tools for training, resources, and process documentation.
  • Design and recommend new tools, processes, and systems to improve efficiency in Labor Strategy operations.
  • Provide feedback on grievance trends to Colleague Support partners and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Labor Contract Interpretation: Ability to interpret labor contracts and hold leaders accountable for compliance.

Grievance Management: Skilled in managing and responding to contractual grievances by leveraging knowledge of labor law, business strategy, and contractual language; experienced in partnering with Labor Strategy leadership as needed.

Trend & Data Analysis: Proficient in tracking grievances across bargaining agreements and operating divisions; able to identify trends, report findings, and recommend solutions.

Collective Bargaining Support: Experienced in preparing and presenting critical data for use in collective bargaining and preventive labor strategies.

Arbitration Representation: Capable of representing the company in labor arbitrations and National Labor Relations Board cases.

Financial Impact Analysis: Strong ability to conduct cost analyses on negotiation points to determine contractual and financial implications.

Process Improvement: Partnered with process improvement teams to design and implement efficient labor reporting systems and workflows.

Negotiation & Project Support: Provides support for labor negotiations, special projects, and other labor strategy initiatives.

Relationship Building: Proven ability to foster strong, productive relationships with labor strategy peers and preventive teams.

Training & Tools Development: Experienced in developing PowerPoint decks, Excel tools, and processes to support labor strategy education and training.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. Law degree preferred. 4+ years of Labor Relations experience or employee relations experience required.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
