JOB DETAILS: Accountant I is responsible for reconciling assigned accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis, assisting with financial reporting and the monthly closing process. Month-end duties include Journal Entries and analysis for the general ledger close. This position will also continually analyze, design, and suggest improvements and help to implement changes related to finance/accounting internal controls process. This position operates under limited supervision and is expected to exercise a degree of independent judgment in performing day-to-day functions. This position can also have a flexible schedule in either being part time or full time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety



  • Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
  • Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.



Financial Reporting and Analysis



  • Performs reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Assists with financial reporting.
  • Assists in the monthly close process including but not limited to recurring journal entries, allocations etc.
  • Prepares external financial reports as required by manufacturers and census bureaus for the products and industries we represent.
  • Assists in the fixed asset close, including but not limited to capitalizations, transfers, disposal, and CIP.
  • Assists in the annual financial statement audit.
  • Analyzes, develops, and implements changes related to the finance/accounting internal control process.
  • Independently facilitates the process related to record retention.
  • Works within and promotes corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
  • Observes and promotes Western States customer care standards.
  • Works safely always. Adheres to all applicable safety policies and complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply math computation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft excel formulas and pivot tables.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proactive and positive attitude and professional communication skills for negotiation and reconciliation.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency and strong organizational skills to meet the challenges of a fast-paced business environment.
  • Consistent attendance.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting or equivalent work related experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in financial statement analysis and/or accounting.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft computer products and experience with ERP accounting software.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).



PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:



  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
