Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Part-time Business Banking Portfolio Banker that spends much of their time working with assigned Business Banking Relationship Managers (RM)/Business Banking Director to determine whether a new loan request fits the credit culture of the bank. As part of this, the Portfolio Banker will communicate directly with the bank's credit group, including preparing pre-flights and presenting pre-flights to the bank's credit leadership for discussion and approval. If the bank decides it would like to pursue these opportunities, the Portfolio Banker will directly communicate with customers and prospects to win the business and will also work alongside the Business Banking team and external legal counsel to document and close the loan(s). The Portfolio Banker will also assist the Business Banking team to manage a sizeable loan and deposit portfolio. This will include handling renewals and reviews of existing credits and analyzing credit/financial information associated with those relationships.

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Key Accountabilities

Pre-Underwriting/Approval/Loan Closing

    Initially analyze potential loan opportunities to determine whether the bank should pursue them.
  • Work closely with the Business Banking Relationship Mangers/team and the bank's credit department to prepare a loan structure that works for the bank.
  • Draft pre-flights for formal discussion in committee.
  • Verbally present pre-flights and credit presentations for discussion and approval, which could include credit committee.
  • Work closely with the bank's Treasury group and Capital Markets team to price loans that achieve the bank's desired profitability hurdles.
  • Review due diligence packages in detail to ensure there are no issues.
  • Prepare term sheets that are structured appropriately based on the feedback from the bank's credit partners.
  • Work closely with the bank's centralized functions for Real Estate Due Diligence, that include the bank's appraisal group and environmental review team.
  • Collaborate with the bank's Commercial Banking Unit ("CBU") / Loan Operations / Loan Documentation teams for internally documenting loans (LaserPro) and for ongoing servicing of loans.
  • Work with the bank's approved external legal counsel to document loans in accordance with the approval.
  • Work with all parties to appropriately close loans. Including, but not limited to, the Borrower, Borrower's legal counsel, Title company, bank's legal external counsel, bank's loan operations, commercial banking associates, etc.

Portfolio Management

  • Communicate directly with customers to be sure that financials are current, which shall include using the bank's tickler system and working alongside CRDTOPS.
  • Work with the bank's credit group to help complete annual reviews and answer questions in the annual review process.
  • Obtain the appropriate credit approval as required for renewals, covenant violations, etc.
  • Manages the renewal process for maturing loans and other credit commitments, including covenant monitoring.
  • Understands and follows Loan Policy with no material undocumented and unapproved exceptions to help ensure compliance and audit rating of satisfactory or better.
  • Helps to manage the Deposit Portfolio, which might include that any overdrafts are properly handled and approval received as required.
  • Completes Problem Loan Reports as needed.
  • Effectively cross sells various services to customers including personal banking, private banking, cash management and investments.
  • Participates in ongoing prospecting strategies and potential new market opportunities.
  • Works with market leaders and bankers to strengthen referral source network development through purposeful, proactive activities and events.
  • Collaborates with any internal group as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Relationship Management

  • Provides a high level of service to existing clients to provide exceptional customer experience, proactively manages relationship, and identifies and expands servicing opportunity with the customer's best interest in mind.
  • Build network through attending industry conference events.
  • Actively introduces other ONB teammates including senior leaders.

Team/Cross Team Collaboration

  • Demonstrates teamwork by collaborating with others on the team and other members of the broader ONB team to achieve individual and company goals.
  • While reporting through separate commercial lines, it is critically important that the Commercial, Personal, Private/Wealth and Treasury Management teams, as well as shared services, create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration throughout ONB. Demonstrate team collaboration by partnering on joint calling efforts, sharing best practices, providing cross-sell opportunities, open and honest dialogue, and other appropriate actions that support great results and excellent cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business/finance or related field or GED/HS diploma with equivalent experience.
  • Several years of commercial lending experience with an emphasis on credit analysis, commercial lending, risk assessment, compliance and problem loan resolution is preferred.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

Level of role may vary between Portfolio Banker, Portfolio Banker II, and Portfolio Banker Senior:

  • II will have previously been a successful Portfolio Banker (or held a similar role) at the bank or at another financial institution
  • II will have prior demonstrated experience communicating directly with the bank's credit group, including preparing pre-flights and presenting pre-flights to the bank's credit leadership for discussion and approval
  • II will have prior proficiency directly communicating with customers and prospects to win the business and has familiarity and a proven track record of working alongside the Business Banking (or other Commercial segment) team
  • Senior will likely maintain a larger number of relationships and also require less oversight from the Relationship Managers.
  • Senior level will assist in the training of new team members which may include Relationship Managers, administrative support, Credit partners, and interns.
  • Greater emphasis and need is expected of a Senior/More Experienced Portfolio Bankers regarding making decisions/solving (complex or unique) problems
  • Senior Level requires a minimum of 7-10 years of Business Banking/Commercial experience
