GFT is seeking a Assistant Bridge Inspector to join our Transportation Team in Tampa, FL!

What you'll be challenged to do:

GFT is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Bridge Inspector to join our growing team in Tampa, Florida. In this role, you will support the Inspection Team Leader in conducting thorough inspections of transportation-related structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls throughout the state. This is a hands-on position that involves a mix of fieldwork and office responsibilities, ideal for individuals interested in infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction.

We are looking for someone who is technically inclined, has a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions precisely. You must also be comfortable working outdoors in various environmental conditions and performing physically demanding tasks such as climbing, crawling, and traversing rough terrain.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Inspection Duties:

  • Assist in performing detailed inspections of bridges and transportation structures under the guidance of a certified Inspection Team Leader.

  • Learn to identify and document structural deficiencies, corrosion, cracking, and other condition-related issues.

  • Collect measurements using appropriate tools and accurately convert them for use in condition assessments and reports.

Documentation & Reporting:
  • Help organize and prepare inspection notes and field observations.

  • Contribute to the creation and formatting of structure inspection reports for submission to relevant authorities.

  • Maintain consistent documentation both in hard copy and digital formats for various inspection projects.

Field Operations:
  • Operate inspection equipment including bucket trucks, ladders, and hand tools safely and effectively.

  • Perform physical activities such as climbing ladders, crawling into confined spaces, and wading through shallow water.

  • Navigate challenging terrain including steep slopes, uneven ground, and areas with dense vegetation.

Additional Duties:
  • Assist with basic office-related tasks, including data entry and file management.

  • Support team members during inspections and foster a collaborative work environment.

Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record.

  • Reliable personal transportation to and from the office or field locations.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to follow detailed instructions.

  • Ability and enthusiasm to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

What we prefer you bring:
  • Previous experience in construction, building maintenance, or related technical trades.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with digital imaging and file processing tools such as Adobe, Paint.net, Betterjpeg, Print Station, and Google Maps.

  • Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) systems such as the Mainframe and Bridge Management System (BMS).

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $22-$31. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
