POSITION SUMMARY:

Directs quality assurance factory floor and/or Laboratory personnel while maintaining a close rapport with production and the Quality team to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality. A key position within the Quality Team providing expertise and support to the Operations department and factory Management staff, fostering a cross departmental quality and compliance mind-set.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONAL TASKS

  • Coordinates with production the monitoring of processes and procedures to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement
  • Uses Defect Root Cause Analysis for the investigation of consumer and customer complaints and quality related losses. Develops corrective actions and monitors for effectiveness. Troubleshoots using product tests and product specification measurements.
  • Ensures an active internal quality audit program in compliance with FSSC 22000 and the Nestle Quality Management System.
  • Ensure update HACCP, NQMS and SOPs as needed and ensures training of associates at all levels on quality programs.
  • Manages relationships with internal and external customers, suppliers, colleagues, and support services to ensure achievement of targets.

SYSTEMS TASKS

  • Manages quality assurance production floor support team by scheduling and assigning work, providing training and managing budgets
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance for FSSC 22000 while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the factory.
  • Actively participates in the change control process. Maintains and updates Rework and Allergen matrices for the factory.
  • Maintain Quality Pyramid. Summarizes the information and reports for operational reviews
  • Communicates Quality and Food Safety briefs to the factory.
  • Summarizes data, and prepares and interprets reports for use by management.
  • Acts as a communication liaison between management and quality staff to support corporate and plant-driven initiatives.
  • Perform daily record review and all related tasks in the absence of the Release Coordinator.
  • Perform all quality related SAP transactions as needed.

LABORATORY TASKS

  • Supports factory traceability exercises.
  • Manages factory laboratories for chemistry, incoming goods, microbiology and / or sensory by scheduling and assigning work, providing training and managing budgets.
  • Ensures daily routine sample analyses using lab techniques and other instrumentation following Good Laboratory Practices and Internal Control Plans (ICP).
  • Oversees lab operational activities - daily equipment maintenance, ordering, stock control, stock record entry, reporting, document control, etc.
  • Ensures lab compliance for FSSC 22000 and NQMS while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the lab.
  • Ensures the completion of internal lab audits in compliance with the NQAC program.
  • Updates NQMS, ICPs and SOPs as needed and ensures training of laboratory associates. Assists, advises and trains factory employees in attaining NQAC requirements (MI, LI, P-test, etc.).
  • Ensures that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in designated and specifically Lab areas.
  • Summarizes data, and prepares and interprets reports for use by management.
  • Acts as a communication liaison between management and laboratory staff to support corporate and plant-driven initiatives.
  • Is the key factory contact person with NQAC.

FACTORY COMPLIANCE TASKS

  • Support an integrated approach for management systems (FSSC22000/ISO14001/ISO45001/NMS[WoW]), all regulatory and Nestle other requirements (mandatory good business practice standards).
  • Manage integrated of common documentation policies and procedures.
  • Manage documents in Intelex throughout the life cycle including initiation, draft, final, revisions, obsolescence, deletion, verification and closeouts.
  • Support training for integrated management system requirements with management representatives.
  • Utilize and support factory Management of Change process.
  • Support NMS process owners, processed descriptions, audit gaps closure and INCs (corrective/ preventative action reports) and continuous improvement through NCE.
  • Support the integrated Management Reviews.
  • Support the factory Integrated Internal Audit program through Intelex Audit Mgmt Tool (scheduling & reports).
  • Support audit preparedness process in factory. This involves utilizing risk review and assessment tools to highlight gaps that pose risk to the business and work with process owners to close the gaps and maintain good business practices.
  • Support certification elements of NMS, ISO 14001, ISO45001, FSSC22000. i.e. Surveillance audits, Re-certification audits, certification audits, NMA/NGA schedules.

SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and Nestle guidelines pertaining to safety, health, and environmental.
  • Is a key part of the culture change towards behavioral safety improvement.

NESTLE CONTINUOUS EXCELLENCE

  • Supports key Nestle Continuous Excellence (NCE) initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

  • B.S. Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years manufacturing and/or laboratory experience required, food industry preferred.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in QA/QC preferred.
