The janitor cleans and keeps in an orderly condition of duties that involve a combination of the following: Sweeping, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Responsible for the overall care of the building and the grounds and following proper cleaning procedures.
  • Vacuum, dust, sweep, mop, empty trash) around the different areas of the building on a daily basis.
  • Use various equipment utilized in the process of daily housekeeping tasks, such as operate floor buffer machine and scrubber machine to clean rugs around the building.
  • Clean glass of all doorways and entrances to offices.
  • Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after cleaning offices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Notify management of need for repairs when necessary.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
  • Previous experience in custodial field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to comprehend basic written and oral instructions.
  • Internal and external customer service skills.
  • Ability to cooperate with others, good personal and grooming habits.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly working area to maximize efficiency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
