Job Summary
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all construction site activities from facility development to equipment installation and commissioning. This role ensures adherence to specifications and code requirements, monitors site operations for safety, quality, and productivity, and leads daily project execution. The General Superintendent also serves as the primary on-site contact for project management and coordination.
Education
Preferably high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction and steel fabrication.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or in a similar leadership role.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to write reports and professional correspondence to vendors, government officials, and clients.
- Good reading comprehension of technical documents such as safety regulations, assembly/maintenance instructions, and manuals.
- Strong verbal communication skills, especially in customer and client interactions.
- Ability to identify non-compliance with standards and recommend solutions.
Duties
- Participate in all daily JSA meetings and assist with JSA development.
- Ensure completion of Quality Control tasks (dimensional checks, welding quality, heat #s, stencils, etc.) in collaboration with the Quality Control Manager.
- Monitor and manage daily clock in/out times and ensure all time is documented properly.
- Supervise all project foremen and ensure their alignment with task execution.
- Serve as the main point of contact for updates and communication with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator. Keep the Project Director informed.
- Advise the Construction Manager on material needs to avoid delays.
- Immediately communicate any out-of-scope issues or installation misfits to the Construction Manager for resolution and cost documentation.
- Resolve priority or scheduling conflicts in coordination with the Construction Manager.
- Communicate scheduled completion dates to Project Coordinators and QA/QC for progress reporting.
- Ensure that materials are not moved from storage without approval from the Material Expeditor.
- Coordinate with Foremen regarding equipment needs for task execution.
- Ensure final completion and quality of all assigned tasks.
- Monitor site cleanliness and housekeeping daily.
- Track and address personnel attendance and punctuality.
- Participate in daily completion and 24-hour lookahead meetings as well as safety meetings.
- Participate in bid scope reviews and project kick-offs when required.
- Report recurring quality, performance, or reliability issues to Construction Manager and HR for corrective actions.
- Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented attitude and promote quality customer service to all stakeholders.
