DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Bilingual Labor Law Investigator, you will be responsible for receiving and screening complaints. This involves conducting timely detailed interviews (phone or in person) of claimants and business owners. Work includes conducting audits of payroll records, timecards and related materials, requesting documents and pertinent information from employees, employers, and invested parties to ensure a thorough and accurate investigation. This position travels to business locations for investigation and audit tasks. Effective communication with employers, employees, and supervisors concerning current investigation status is essential. You will be expected to maintain detailed, timely reports of investigation progress. In this vital investigative role, you will facilitate conferences with claimants and employers, when appropriate. You will have the opportunity to educate contractors, organizations, employees, and public officials of the requirements of the laws and of recent legal decisions affecting the application of such laws.

Other duties to include but not limited to:

  • Collecting physical evidence and eyewitness accounts to prepare for prosecution
  • Preparing case narratives; both written and verbal testimony for cases that proceed to legal action
  • Filing prosecutions when necessary
  • Representing the Commonwealth in prosecutions before the District Justice
  • Filing weekly itinerary and case summaries with the Investigation Supervisor

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or
  • One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to fluently speak, read, and write in Spanish.
  • This position requires federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID at the time of conditional job offer.
  • Must live in or be willing to move to the geographic region the Pittsburgh District Office covers by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid. The following counties are served by the Pittsburgh District Office: Allegheny, Beaver, Crawford, Erie, Greene, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington, Westmoreland.
  • You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry.
  • You must demonstrate the ability to work with professionalism, discretion and good work ethic.
  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in conducting investigations or working in construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
  • An associate's degree or greater, in a field related to investigative work construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
  • Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws
  • Experience testifying at administrative or court hearings
