    About the Department:
    
    The Mason and Partners (MAP) Clinics are nurse-led inter-professional health centers operated by the George Mason University School of Nursing. The MAP clinics serve uninsured and medically under-served populations in Prince William and Fairfax Counties to deliver non-emergency health care, mental health support, case management, chronic disease education, and social services referrals, while providing essential clinical training for nursing and interprofessional students.
    
    About the Position:
    
    As a part-time Public Health Nurse Practitioner at the MAP Clinics, this individual will work 20 hours per week in a direct care Nurse Practitioner clinician role supervising Nurse Practitioner students in caring for low-income and medically underserved clients in Northern Virginia.
    
    Responsibilities:
    
    
     
     - Advanced NP Practice Clinical Care:
     
      
      - Clinical Care: Assessing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic primary care conditions; performing and interpreting diagnostic tests; and leading specialty clinics, including those focused on chronic disease management, acute care, pediatrics, and women's health;
- Education & Mentorship: Precepting graduate and undergraduate nursing students, guiding their clinical care experience, and contributing to practice based learning. 
 
 
     
     - Leadership & Administration:
     
      
      - Serving as the lead nurse practitioner on-site, providing administrative oversight of population-based patient initiatives, and developing clinical improvement plans in collaboration with the MAP Administrative team. 
 
 
     
     - Care Collaboration & Consultation:
     
      
      - Consulting, referring, and collaborating with both university and community healthcare providers to ensure integrated, patient-centered care. 
 
 
     
     - Quality Improvement:
     
      
      - Participating in continuous quality improvement and risk management activities such as chart reviews, peer reviews, and patient conferences and clinical studies necessary for MAP Clinic operations.
     
    
Required Qualifications:
    
    Required Education:
    
    
     
     - Master's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    
Required Experience:
    
    
     
     - Minimum of 2 years in primary care, internal medicine, or family practice;
- Experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, providing primary or acute care to clients; and
- Submitted evidence of a graduate degree in nursing or the appropriate nurse practitioner specialty from an educational program (see 18VAC90-30-10).
    
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
    
    
     
     - Knowledge:
 
 
       
 
- Virginia Board of Nursing scope of practice regulations for prelicensure and licenses for RN and NP's;
- Community-based clinic service delivery and public health principles; and
- Interdisciplinary collaboration models.
 
 
 
- Skills:
 
 
       
 
- Nurse Practitioner patient care knowledge;
- Skills and abilities related to the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions, health promotion, and disease prevention interventions; and
- Utilizes electronic health record documentation systems and public health reporting/documentation.
 
 
 
- Abilities:
 
       
 
- Mentors and supervises basic and advanced student nurse learners and other disciplines in the MAP Clinic;
- Leads clinical care delivery in a multi-site setting; and
- Manages chronic and preventive care independently.
 
 
 
    
Required Licenses and Certifications:
    
    
     
     - Must meet Virginia Board of Nursing criteria for APRN Licensure (18VAC90-30-80) by holding a current, active RN License or multistate privilege;
- Must have and maintain a valid RN and advanced practice (NP) license, with flexibility for travel to MAP Clinics;
- Submitted evidence of professional certification in specialty area (see 18VAC90-30-90); and
- Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
    
Preferred Qualifications:
    
    Preferred Education:
    
    
     
     - Terminal degree in a related field.
    
Preferred Experience:
    
    
     
     - Experience in a safety-net clinic, FQHC, or in community-based care practices and/or nurse-led clinic operations;
- Leadership and care coordination for complex patients;
- Experience working with students; and
- Prior work with underserved populations.
    
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
    
    
     
     - Basic knowledge of public health programs (e.g., VDH immunizations, PAP programs, naloxone distribution);
- Knowledge of social determinants of health in underserved populations;
- Ability to manage telehealth services; and
- Autonomous Advanced Practice RN (APRN).
