Purpose

Provide specialized career coaching to undergraduate Economic majors at UT Austin. Leverage direct industry experience or corporate recruiting expertise to prepare students for internship/job applications, including career exploration, resume writing, networking, and interviewing. Support Liberal Arts Career Services initiatives by coordinating events + marketing campaigns. This position reports directly to the Economics Career Pathways Coordinator.

This is a three-year fixed term position.

Responsibilities
  • CAREER COACHING - Provide coaching (virtual and in-person, individual and group settings) to Economics undergraduates, focusing on career readiness including resume/cover letter reviews, behavioral interview and case interview preparation, career exploration, and industry-specific networking strategies. Deliver insights on employment trends and career pathways in accounting, business, consulting, finance, and other relevant industries to Economics majors. Efficiently manage a high volume of student interactions, maintaining detailed coaching notes onto 12twenty database. Grade class assignments and occasionally deliver lectures as Teaching Assistant to ECO 101S career development course. Respond promptly to student correspondence related to career readiness and Liberal Arts Career Services resources.

  • COMMUNICATION - Collaborate with Liberal Arts Career Services team in creating and distributing marketing materials/initiatives to Economics undergraduates. Responsibilities include marketing jobs/internships, distributing pre-event + post-event requests to relevant stakeholders (students, staff, faculty, alum, employers), and promoting intra-campus resources relevant to Economics majors.

  • EVENT COORDINATION - Support Economics Career Pathways Coordinator with planning, coordinating, and presenting workshops and initiatives related to student engagement, including employer events, alum events, and presentations to classrooms + student groups. Assist with coordination of logistics and guest services to Economics Speakers Series, UTIMCO Scholar Program, Summer Orientation, and related employer/alumni events.

  • NETWORKING - Represent Liberal Arts Career Services and the Department of Economics in on-campus and off-campus meetings and conferences. Attend professional development webinars and conferences to maintain exposure to latest industry trends and professional experiences relevant to Economics majors.

  • CAREER SERVICES - Support and collaborate with Liberal Arts Career Services team at College-wide events, including all fairs. Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development meetings weekly. Support Economics Career Pathways Coordinator with data tracking and reporting efforts. Other related duties and functions as assigned and based on the evolving needs of the College.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, counseling, economics, education, finance, humanities, social sciences or related field. Experience in business, consulting, finance, human resources, and/or recruiting. Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellence in oral and written communication. Exceptional event planning skills + comfort presenting in large group settings. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in accounting, business, counseling, economics, education, finance, humanities, social sciences or related field. Experience working in career services and/or higher education. Experience critiquing resumes and internship/job applications. Experience with AI tools/software including ChatGPT. Familiarity with UT departments and processes. Proficiency in data management and reporting. Experience with cloud-based software, including Handshake, Symplicity, 12twenty and/or Canvas.

Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
