Purpose of the Job

The AI Architect Specialist is a strategic technology leader responsible for designing and implementing AI infrastructure that enables innovation and optimizes key business processes across the Credit Union. This individual will develop the technical vision for artificial intelligence systems, lead AI solution architecture, and ensure robust data pipelines and governance frameworks are in place to support scalable, ethical, and secure AI initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in data architecture, AI/ML systems, and enterprise-scale solution design, with a passion for driving member value through technology.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Leads the convergence of AI strategy with enterprise digital transformation initiatives, ensuring AI capabilities are embedded in product, service, and member experience strategies across business units.

  • Designs architectures to support federated learning, edge AI, and hybrid cloud deployments, enabling decentralized AI processing while maintaining governance and control.

  • Guides the transformation of traditional operating models into AI-driven, autonomous decision-making frameworks across finance, operations, HR, and member service.

  • Establishes and leads an enterprise AI portfolio governance framework that balances innovation with risk management and return on investment (ROI) assessment.

  • Builds mechanisms to audit AI outcomes for fairness, explainability, and bias mitigation across models, and embed these into model development lifecycles (MLOps + ModelOps).

  • Designs and implements a semantic data layer or enterprise knowledge graph that supports AI reasoning, contextual understanding, and enterprise search.

  • Designs secure, multi-tenant AI platforms to serve diverse business functions while preserving data isolation and optimizing shared resources.

  • Conducts technical evaluations and integrations of AI capabilities during M&A activities or when forming partnerships with AI vendors or startups.

  • Leads the design of rapid experimentation frameworks (e.g., AI sandboxes, model marketplaces, internal hackathons) to accelerate innovation and minimize time to value.

  • Spearheads initiatives to embed AI literacy and citizen data science programs across the organization, integrating self-service tools into business workflows.

  • Aligns AI initiatives with business capability models, value streams, and enterprise goals, ensuring AI investments directly impact enterprise KPIs.

  • Defines architectural controls and compliance mechanisms for AI models and code sourced from external APIs, foundation models, and open-source communities.

  • Designs for cross-domain intelligence, including Architect AI systems that integrate signals across multiple domains (e.g., IT, cybersecurity, member engagement, supply chain) to enable enterprise-wide intelligence and situational awareness.

  • Implements architecture principles and model lifecycle practices that optimize for carbon footprint, compute efficiency, and responsible use of cloud/edge resources.

  • Represents the organization in external AI forums, industry groups, and regulatory panels to shape policy, share thought leadership, and influence standards development.

  • Must have proven ability to implement AI strategies and manage complex AI initiatives

  • Must have ability to communicate AI concepts to executive leadership and stakeholders at all levels

  • Must have ability to analyze complex business challenges and design AI-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency and member experience

  • Must have a deep understanding of cloud computing architectures

  • Must have strong data architecture and data governance background

  • Must have proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Must have ability to make decisions and work independently

  • Must be able to evaluate systems and procedures, implementing efficiency enhancements

  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the Credit Union

  • Must be detail oriented and well organized

  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required

  • Must be able to complete all assignments with minimal supervision

  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer

  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field required or equivalent work experience

  • 5 years of experience in enterprise architecture, data engineering, or software engineering required

  • 3 years of experience designing and deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments required

  • 2 years hands-on experience with generative AI (LLMs), chatbots, or cognitive services required

  • Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) preferred

  • Hands-on experience with data platforms/warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, Azure, AWS, Google, etc.) preferred

  • Experience in banking, credit unions, or fintech preferred
