The H&S Family of Bakeries are a network of 10 bakeries and multiple distribution centers along the East Coast all committed to one thing: producing the best quality bread products. As the Director of Corporate Safety & Risk Management you will lead and manage all aspects of safety in the workplace and regulatory compliance. This role ensures that all safety programs align with federal, state, and local regulations. This is a critical role in fostering a proactive safety culture, minimizing risk, and ensuring the health and well-being of all employees. In the role, you will:
- Partner with leadership to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures that align with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Champion a culture of safety by enforcing policies and leading proactive safety initiatives across all plant locations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, and codes, including OSHA standards.
- Maintain required safety documentation, including recordkeeping and reporting.
- Conduct regular plant safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to evaluate compliance, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate workplace incidents and accidents; analyze root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Support and guide safety committees and provide technical expertise.
- Identify and drive opportunities to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and occupational health risks through data-driven analysis and tailored interventions.
- Design, deliver, and continuously improve employee training programs on safety standards, procedures, and prevention strategies.
- Evaluate industrial bakery equipment, facility layouts, and workstations for safety and ergonomic improvements.
- Develop safety-related policies, procedures, and reports to support ongoing risk mitigation and compliance.
- Track and report safety metrics, incident trends, and program outcomes to leadership.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of hands-on safety and risk management experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in occupational health & safety, risk management, environmental health and safety (EHS), or related discipline - bachelor's degree in one of these disciplines would be a plus, high school diploma or GED required.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated success designing, executing, and evaluating safety interventions, programs, and risk mitigation strategies across all plant (bakery) locations.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Strong skills in data analysis, risk assessment, policy development, and safety reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
- Ability to connect safety goals to business objectives while executing as a hands-on, operational leader.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and self-directed on initiatives from inception to post-implementation evaluation.
- High level of emotional intelligence and consultative skill.
- Able to assess an organization's current safety posture and develop actionable strategies to make measurable improvements.
