JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for developing, conducting and evaluating in-service programs, orientation and continuing education for nurses, students, patients and other staff in a specified clinical area. Consults with external clinical educators, staff, physicians and administration on the organization's educational requirements to ensure patient and staff needs are met. Develops educational policies and procedures. Serves as a resource person to staff and management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for the direction of education for the facility. Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statement of the organization

Demonstrates ability to direct educational programs covering the life span including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

Develops and directs orientation programs, in-services and continuing education for all organization personnel. Develop and facilitate education materials in patient and family centered care concepts. Monthly review of bundle element compliance for each department.

Interacts professionally with the nursing staff, nurse managers and other department managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs

Monitor/coach staff in all nursing bundle elements. Develops, evaluates, reviews, revises and implements policies and procedures; goals and objectives; and standards of care.

Coordinates training programs and affiliations with organizations, schools, i.e., students from different schools of healthcare, and nursing.

Orients new staff members; evaluates skill competencies during the 90-day probationary period

Documents staff attendance at in-services; ensures educational requirements, reorganization requirements and standards are met on an annual basis by all staff members of the unit.

Responsible for developing a budget for educational programs; ability to write grant proposals if necessary.

Performs management activities including reports, presentations, evaluations, maintains educational records for the organization.

Competent administrator of Healthstream for staff on line education needs

Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and TJC regulations related to the organization.

Develops and maintains the hospital competency program.

Coordinates orientation for students in nursing and allied health programs

Competent Administrator of Staff Garden Program

Competent Administrator of Navex program and trainings

Direct supervision of all telemetry staff and responsible for all department requirements

Responsible for Hospital Observer Program.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-Registered Nurse, BSN required. MSN preferred

-Solid computer skills, solid public speaking skills, be able to work independently and supervise others

-A minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical nursing experience and at least 2 years of experience in acute care hospital education service

-A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience or Clinical Educator

-Professional development and/or clincial educator experience required.

BLS Certification required
