The Director, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Projects, Major Projects Dept, is responsible for development of capital budgets and schedule, and management of all MEP/infrastructure related projects across the Enterprise. The position has oversight over their assigned project management staff to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective execution of the approved capital program for Jefferson, for the Division(s) assigned. The Director may also directly manage as a project manager a portion of the capital program depending on project workload.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Work with senior leadership and the Facilities Operations Dept, develops project scope and project budgets in support of the annual capital budget and ISFP planning.
  • Manage the execution of the MEP/Infrastructure capital program through management of project management staff.
  • Responsible for the management of internal project managers and outsource project managers to insure successful project delivery
  • Responsible for on time and on budget delivery of all projects assigned.
  • Ensure basis of design (BOD) and project scope, budget and schedule are clearly defined and adhered to.
  • Ensure proper staffing of workload utilizing centralized staff resources as required.
  • Assist VP Planning and Major Projects with policies, Standard Operating Procedures and best practices development and implementation.
  • Assist VP Planning and Major Projects with staff training, performance review and feedback.
  • Approve project financial transactions (budget approvals, commitments, invoices) through EAM's project management system.
  • Ensure adherence to Jefferson policies and procedures and to all external regulatory requirements in the execution of capital projects.
  • Assist in the development and ensure implementation and maintenance of enterprise standards.
  • Provide complete and accurate reports on capital projects progress and financials.
  • Manage capital projects as assigned by VP Planning and Major Projects.
  • Oversee/direct all facility expansion, modification, renovation/alteration projects from conceptualization and planning, through design, bidding, construction and post construction occupancy (e.g., medical equipment installation, move-in planning and execution).
  • Manage all professional consultants, including architects, engineers, equipment planners, signage, art, legal, etc.
  • Manage contractors and or construction managers and sub-contractors.
  • Oversee efforts to obtain all required local/governmental approvals associated with site and project development.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and schedules
  • Responsible for complying with all State and Local codes, including Infection Control {ICRA), Fire and Life Safety.
  • Maintain Interim Life Safety and other documentation as required.
  • Develop and promote best practices and continuous improvement for the department.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Vice President, Planning Design and Construction.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and e-Builder required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or MEP related is required. Master's degree in engineering, construction management, or related MEP field is preferred.

AND

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of related experience in MEP/infrastructure related healthcare and / or higher education capital project management.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

  • Professional registration or licensure (PE) is preferred.
  • Related certifications such as AHA Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) are preferred.
