Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Aquatic Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the principal function for the Aquatic Coordinator is to perform duties in support of the operation and maintenance of the University's pool facilities, and, as assigned may serve as lead worker making work assignments and monitoring completion of work.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Oversee the daily operation of the Rutgers Golden Dome pool and facilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic support staff
- Conduct in-service training sessions for lifeguards to maintain certification and emergency preparedness
- Oversee swim programs and community engagement activities such as Learn-to-Swim programs, water aerobics, and other aquatic offerings
- Coordinate swim team schedules, including practices, meets, and competitions
- Work with Rutgers athletic staff, student organizations, and external groups to optimize pool usage
- Promote aquatic programs through university outreach, social media, and community partnerships
- Create staffing schedule and confirm payroll hours worked
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy

Certifications/Licenses |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- 2-3 years of experience in aquatic facility management or lifeguard supervision
- Lifeguard, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid certifications are required
- Knowledge of pool maintenance, chemical balancing, and safety protocols
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Aquatic Sciences, or related field is preferred

Equipment Utilized |
- Chemical test kit, pocket mask, first aid and CPR supplies, AED, and additional equipment that pertains to pool operations

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work is performed in an indoor aquatic facility with exposure to pool chemicals and wet environments
- Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks such as lifting pool equipment and responding to emergencies
