The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (CISE) at the UVA School of Education and Human Development seeks applicants for an experienced teacher educator to serve as an Academic Program Officer within the CISE Department. CISE offers a range of educator preparation programs in teacher education, reading education, and special education. The CISE Department supports McGuffey Reading Services, the oldest, continuously running university-based reading service in the country. McGuffey serves the local community and beyond to support students who have experienced difficulty learning to read, write, and spell through educational assessments and reading interventions. Duties of the Academic Program Officer will include the administrative management of McGuffey Reading Services, including after school interventions, diagnostic evaluations, and communication with internal and external stakeholders. We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about helping to shape the department's culture and practices and who can adapt through a process of continuous improvement to meet stakeholders' needs. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills to be effective in building relationships with faculty, academic departments, and partners across the school and in the local community. Responsibilities for McGuffey Reading Services
Responsibilities will also include the day-to-day operations of the Master of Education in Special Education degree. This program is designed to support special educators in deepening their skills, broadening their knowledge base, and pursuing new roles within special education. Areas of focus include special education leadership and applied behavioral analysis. Many M.Ed. students are working professionals, so some evening hours will be required to provide student support. Minimum Requirements Education: Master's Degree Required. Bachelor's Degree and relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of Master's Degree. Experience: Four years of relevant experience. Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. This role does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and/or programs. The anticipated salary for this position will range between $70,000-$80,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Application review will begin July 28.
