Materials Manager

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen.

A Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, organizing, and controlling of materials used in construction and engineering projects. This role involves managing purchase orders, expediting materials, and ensuring materials are received, distributed, and tracked effectively.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Materials Manager: $

Pay commensurate with experience.

Materials Manager Responsibilities Include:

  • Create, track, and manage purchase orders.

  • Expedite orders to ensure timely delivery and avoid project delays.

  • Oversee proper storage and handling of materials.

  • Track inventory to minimize waste and ensure availability when needed.

  • Manage the receiving process of materials.

  • Ensure timely distribution of materials to the appropriate locations on the project site.

  • Develop and maintain reports, metrics, and dashboards related to material usage, cost efficiency, and performance trends.

  • Use electronic systems and software tools for procurement, inventory, and material management processes.

  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, procurement staff, and other stakeholders to align material availability with project requirements.

  • Managing material budgets and controlling costs associated with material acquisition and storage.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Materials Manager Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in materials management, preferably within large-scale construction projects.

  • Demonstrated expertise in overseeing material planning, procurement, storage, distribution, and inventory control.

  • Proven track record in managing material activities in complex, high-volume construction environments, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.

  • Experience working within government-regulated projects or under Department of Defense (DoD) logistics and property control standards is a strong asset.

  • Supervising and training material management personnel, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge.

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, Maximo, or equivalent tools.

  • Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret data to support material forecasting and performance improvement.

  • Skilled in Visual Management tools, dashboards, and standard reporting formats.

  • Deep understanding of supply chain management principles, including inventory optimization, warehousing logistics, procurement lifecycle, and distribution strategies.

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, including FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and DoD property management practices.

  • Ability to identify inefficiencies in material handling processes and implement solutions that improve productivity and reduce waste.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers, procurement teams, site supervisors, and external vendors.

  • Capable of adapting to fast-paced project environments and managing teams or functions with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment within the organization.

  • Ability to read and write proficiently in the English language.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

  • Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Desire to pursue personal growth and advanced professional skills.

  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
