Installation Quality Manager
Your main responsibilities
The qualified candidate must be a high-energy self-starter with a strong work ethic. This individual will need to be motivated by a competitive industry and be results, detail, and team oriented. The installation expert must have detailed knowledge the function of elevators and escalators including the installation methods as well as how the unit will be maintained to operate safely. Key knowledge, but not critical to the position is to install an elevator/escalator from the ground up and thorough understanding of how all the components interact on all types of elevator/escalator products. As a Schindler Installation quality expert, the candidate's role will include working closely with elevator installation crews and the local Schindler branch office management to clearly identify the root cause of installation non-conformities, quantify their impact/importance, and manage the various Schindler departments to fast track containment and long-term resolution. The candidate is expected to drive companywide process improvements to avoid similar problems in the future. The installation quality manger must have the necessary skills and experience to handle customer concerns and teach other employees the company's quality, productivity, and safety methodology.
- Build a collaborative environment by acting as the chief liaison between the field organization and departments like R&D, supply chain, operations management, and product line management regarding claims.
- Visit NI installations to identify nonconformities, magnitude of issue, collect the data needed for deeper analysis, and determine an appropriate containment solution on site to allow the installation to continue moving forward.
- Communicate directly with field mechanics and superintendents in an entire region (for example east coast) to identify new systemic issues, collect the necessary information for root cause analysis, and share solutions/learnings from other areas.
- Use elevator installation expertise to guide local installers when they are deviating from approved methodology and estimate the hours and cost associated with each claim in order to prioritize the claims we focus on first.
- Provide guidance/training to field mechanics when the problem relates to job site readiness, documentation, training, or local tooling issues.
- Manage the analysis, containment solution, communication to the national field organization, and final resolution/closure of each claim and drive the claim through the various processes and departments necessary to resolve the specific issue.
- Facilitate open communication between internal teams and external suppliers to expedite problem containment and correction.
- Analyze claim data and periodically report directly to upper management the relevant progress/key metrics.
- Help shape the new claim department and develop new processes and methods to help the department grow and provide increasing value to the organization.
Collaboration with field organization:
- Work with territory management and superintendents in designated area/field office to continuously improve process compliance of mechanics, quality of installations, collect claims information, and triage claims to focus on largest value items first.
- Perform job site visits to assess claims reported and conduct material shipment audits (at factory or job site) to verify systemic issues with material shipment/damage
- Help superintendents/TOMs identify and plan tasks to close gaps in mechanic training, tooling, or field processes that contribute to claims loss
Work with value chain partners:
- Manage the execution of containment actions, creation of job site correction instructions, tooling development, and verification of corrections on job sites
- Drive our value chain partners and R&D and the effectiveness of their proposed solutions prior to executing change
- Validate labor estimates/costs for claims and solutions
Support Claims Process:
- Work with HQ team to gather field feedback for continuous process improvement
- Train new superintendents on claims process and tools, develop new company processes
- Analyze claim statistics, reporting to management.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Six Sigma or equivalent lean process improvement, 5S, Pareto Principle/Analysis, fishbone diagrams, 5 whys, process mapping, value stream mapping, and PDCA activities preferred
- Project management
- Quality program certification
- If no degree 5 yrs experience as a Field Supt.
- Advanced knowledge of elevator and escalator industry installation methodology and IUEC practices.
- Detail Oriented with a customer orientation
- Data analysis, Word, Power Point, Excel, Project, Lotus Notes, SAP
- Knowledge of elevator and escalator industry products, norms, and codes.
- Balances Conceptual and Analytical Thinking
- Strong collaborative abilities
- Self-Motivated & Detail Oriented with a customer orientation
- Strong written & verbal communication skills
- Team player, excellent communication skills, up to 20% travel per month if required (ex: sick installation)
