WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Waukesha County Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting a talented professional to join its team as the Outreach Senior Mental Health Counselor. The current opening is in the Clinical Services Division with responsibility to engage individuals who have been referred to the Comprehensive Community Services Program (CCS), Community Support Program (CSP), and Targeted Case Management (TCM).

This position is regular full-time and eligible for benefits. General hours are Monday - Friday (8 am to 430 pm). This position will work with a team that includes: clinical supervisors, service facilitators, mental health professionals, psychiatric prescribers, social workers, nurses, and education providers. The primary office location is the Waukesha County Mental Health Center (1501 Airport Road, Waukesha). Based upon needs of the individual being served, the Senior Mental Health Counselor may provide services in the office, home, or community. Work-related daytime travel may be required to provide community-based services and participate in professional development.

Selected candidate will have knowledge of mental health and alcohol and other drug use. Knowledge of and application of principles of welcoming customer service, strengths-based treatment, culturally responsive services, psychosocial rehabilitation, recovery principles, and client centered planning are essential. The individual will work with young adult through older adult aged clients.

The ideal candidate will have sound clinical assessment skills, be a highly organized individual, and be able to prioritize responsibilities appropriately. Along with referral responsibilities, this position may include service facilitation within the DHS 36 certified Comprehensive Community Services program.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. a. Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology or a closely related field.
b. Two (2) years of professional experience in the field of mental health including one thousand (1000) hours of experience delivering services to the chronically mentally ill and their families.

OR

2. a. Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with at least four (4) courses in sociology, social work, or psychology.
b. Three (3) years of professional experience in the field of mental health including one thousand (1000) hours of experience delivering services to the chronically mentally ill and their families.
3. Master's degree from a recognized college or university in sociology, social work, psychology, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
4. For work assignments in utilization review and benefit verification the following may be substituted:
a. Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology, or a closely related field.
OR
Graduation from a recognized nursing program with active Registered Nurse licensure.
b. Two years of full-time experience in a health or human service field.
5. Valid Driver's License required except for work assignments in utilization review and benefit verification.
