Job Summary
The Senior Operations and Commercial Manager, Drayage and Intermodal leads drayage and intermodal operations with a dual focus on executing commercial strategy and driving operational profitability and service performance.
Primary Objectives
- Drive margin yield and profitability across the drayage and intermodal business segment.
- Oversee daily operations including dispatch, scheduling, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and execute commercial strategies in collaboration with sales and pricing teams.
- Identify growth opportunities and support cross-functional initiatives to enhance service and automation.
- Manage, lead, and develop geographically dispersed teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end drayage operations including dispatch, terminal coordination, and scheduling.
- Lead and support operations teams including dispatchers, drivers, and coordinators to ensure timely and efficient cargo movement.
- Monitor and analyze KPIs related to delivery performance, cycle times, equipment utilization, and carrier compliance.
- Maintain compliance with port, terminal, and DOT regulations.
- Lead financial performance and cost management for the drayage segment and collaborate with finance to improve cost efficiency and margin.
- Partner with pricing and sales teams to develop competitive and profitable rate structures.
- Analyze customer-level profitability and implement action plans for underperforming accounts.
- Optimize vendor/carrier mix and negotiate favorable rates with subcontractors and owner-operators.
- Identify and pursue new business and growth opportunities including lanes, ports, and customer segments.
- Collaborate with product, technology, and data teams to implement automation and visibility tools.
- Conduct market research to stay ahead of competitive trends and port dynamics.
- Act as a commercial liaison with key customers, ensuring expectations are met and opportunities for upsells and expansion are identified.
- Support the sales team in RFP responses, onboarding, and solution design for drayage services.
- Maintain strong relationships with port authorities, carriers, and 3PLs.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field required
Licenses and Certifications
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required
Work Experience
- 6+ years of related drayage, intermodal, or port logistics operations and/or commercial experience required
- 4+ years in a supervisory position with budgetary responsibility required
- Experience in a Business Development or Relationship Management role preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of supply chain operations and logistics solutions across multiple modalities.
- Knowledge of applicable port and terminal facility requirements, hazardous materials and perishable goods handling protocols, safety, and relevant federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with common Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Port Systems (ELDs, chassis pools, terminal APIs, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate operational capabilities effectively with commercial clients.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example to influence, persuade, and motivate others.
- Ability to identify complex problems and use logic and reasoning to review related information to develop and evaluate options, conclusions, and implement solutions.
- Knowledge of key concepts used to effectively analyze financial statements and look for trends and details.
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Working Environment
This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:

- Vessel and terminal environment - includes moving, shifting surfaces, and active production areas including moving vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
Travel
25% Must be able to travel independently to U.S. locations including Hawaii.

The salary range listed is based on the geographic zone associated with this role: San Rafael, CA. Starting pay will be determined by job-related factors including experience, education, and business needs and may be modified at any time.
Zone 1: $135,000 - $150,000
This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment. Annual Incentive Opportunity: 15% of eligible compensation
