Position description
Neuromuscular Disorders

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine, is inviting applications for full-time faculty positions. UC Irvine is nationally and internationally recognized for its excellence in clinical and translational research, particularly in rare and ultrarare neuromuscular disorders.

We seek candidates eligible for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in either the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. Applicants must hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Neurology, or a related field and be board eligible or certified in Neuromuscular Medicine.

The successful candidate will provide outstanding clinical care with a focus on one or more subspecialties within Neuromuscular Medicine. In addition, responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents, engaging in research activities, and contributing to university and public service. We especially encourage applicants with expertise in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myopathies (including myositis and other muscle disorders), and those experienced in clinical trials involving gene therapy or cellular treatments for neuromuscular diseases. Candidates who complement our department's strengths in neuroscience and neuromuscular disorders are highly encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates with experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary neurosciences center and those with experience with international, national, or regional professional societies. Experience in teaching and/or involvement in clinical research or clinical trials is highly desirable.

These positions are contingent on funding, with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewals based on continued support.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The successful candidate will teach fellows, residents, and medical students, provide patient care, participate in scholarly activities, and contribute to both University and community service.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "Neurology" Series: The successful candidate will be expected to conduct significant research, deliver high-quality patient care, and teach fellows, residents, and medical students. In addition, contributing to both University and public service is an important part of the role. Exceptional teaching skills are a key requirement for appointment in this series.

UC Irvine, located in Orange County with a population of more than three million, has a distinguished tradition of excellence in clinical neuroscience.
