What you'll do:

As a Legal Operations Director you'll oversee the day-to-day operations of the Legal Department. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) or Deputy General Counsel, you'll act as an interface between the Legal Department and other Bank departments (e.g., Audit, IT, Project Management) in assigned subject areas. Your primary focus will be to identify, develop and build upon Legal Department processes, driving innovation and culture that maximizes efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of legal services to the Bank and its affiliates. In collaboration with Legal Department leadership, you'll be responsible for supporting the Legal Department's strategic planning process and execution, finance and budget management, legal information technology, process and procedure development and documentation, outside counsel and legal vendor management, and communications and administration.
  • Develop, refine, promote, and execute the Legal Department's mission and department objectives in partnership with the CLO. Create and report metrics and monitor progress to measure success against strategic plans and objectives. Identify and develop cutting-edge strategies for increasing value and maximizing efficiency while maintaining highest quality levels of legal service. Ensure accuracy and improve efficiency of departmental processes, procedures, website material, and strategic communications.
  • Partner with CLO to lead, develop and manage the Legal annual operating plan and department budgets. Be primary point of contact and liaison with Internal Audit. Identify, collect, and report on key performance indicators and other metrics with a focus on budget management effectiveness, including spend analysis, efficiency initiatives and technology.
  • Assess and improve all department resources related to matter management, knowledge management, eDiscovery, document management, intake/workflow and billing management. Able to demonstrate mastery of e-Billing system as well as the ability to write detailed reports within the software tool. Responsible for staying up-to-date on legal technology and assessing other tools which may include contract management, content management, IP management, business process management, board management, eDiscovery, litigation hold, compliance management and subsidiary management.
  • Lead the law firm and third-party vendor management programs with the aim of maximizing value and efficiency. Maintain an updated outside counsel guidelines document and related tools.

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of related experience in Legal Operations or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced skills in all Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Advanced experience with legal focused technology for matter management, ebilling, intake/workflow, contract management.
  • Advanced to expert experience developing and executing strategic plans.
  • Advanced to expert experience building and leading a complex legal function.
  • Capacity to think strategically to identify issues and develop long-term solutions.
  • Demonstrated project management and planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with superior attention to detail.
  • Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
