This full-time, career position, serves as a data analyst for the California Firefighter Cancer Research Study in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The incumbent will work with epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and laboratory scientists to conduct advanced statistical analysis of epidemiological data. This role includes importing and merging data files from various platforms/databases, implementing quality control procedures for data cleaning, validation, and harmonization, developing statistical analysis plans and performing statistical programming, and preparing statistical reports, tables, and figures for manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations. This position reports directly to Dr. Hussain.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in statistics, epidemiology, or related field with experience OR demonstrated significant experience in data cleaning, preprocessing, and statistical analysis and management involving large and/or complex research programs, or similar environment.
- Experience writing statistical programming to provide descriptive analysis of data and visualization.
- Extensive data analysis experience using standard and complex statistical techniques, with the ability to summarize, interpret, and report results and create tables and graphics usable for presentations, publications, and technical reports.
- Experience working with large datasets, complex research programs, or similar environment.
- Excellent programming skills.
- Skills and experience to maintain data codebooks
- Demonstrated ability to resolve issues affecting data quality involving internal and external collaborators, historical practices, and multiple data streams.
- Familiarity with and understanding of statistical modeling including generalized linear models and mixed-effects models for repeated measures, testing of assumptions, and application of state-of-the-art methods to practical epidemiologic problems.
- Demonstrated skills and experience documenting data management activities required.
- Strong ability to work independently, to juggle a large number of responsibilities and projects, and to prioritize different projects or tasks.
- Excellent judgment in handling ambiguous requests or data problems.
- Excellent skills and experience in communication with persons who have diverse backgrounds relative to knowledge of the study databases and diverse levels of quantitative understanding: This includes field staff, clinicians, and scientists from a wide variety of disciplines.
- Ability to explain details regarding the databases and protocols.
- Ability to easily learn new software.
- Ability to evaluate and implement software solutions for specific research project needs.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience is strongly preferred in one or more of the following topics: (a) field-based evaluation projects, (b) policy work, (c) database management, (d) data visualization (f) training and/or adult education techniques.
