Linux Systems Administrator Location: Cedar Rapids, IA Duration: 1-Year Contract (with potential for extension) Client: A client of TEKsystems Travel: None (local site visits only) Compensation: Competitive, based on experience Security Requirement - Must Have: An active U.S. Government Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance is required for this position. Candidates without active clearance will not be considered. Position Overview: TEKsystems is seeking a skilled and proactive Linux Systems Administrator to support a secure, mission-critical environment for one of our aerospace and defense clients. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), who thrive in high-security environments and are passionate about system reliability, automation, and performance. Key Responsibilities: * Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu and RHEL) * Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability * Apply OS patches, upgrades, and maintain administrative tools * Manage system backups and disaster recovery operations * Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues * Enforce system security through access controls, firewalls, and audits * Automate routine tasks using shell scripts or configuration management tools * Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to support infrastructure and deployment needs Required Qualifications: * 3+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator * Strong hands-on experience with Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) * Proficiency in shell scripting (e.g., Bash) * Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) * Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) * Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills * Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance (required) * CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) certification (required) Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Podman or other containerization tools * Familiarity with Kubernetes and Rancher * Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) * Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
