THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services at Clarks Summit State Hospital is on the lookout for skilled mechanics to enhance our Facility Services team, specifically within the Boiler Plant Operator division. If you have the necessary trade skills to support our dedicated group of Facility Services Utility Plant Operators, we want to hear from you. We are currently seeking a highly qualified individual to take on the role of Utility Plant Operator 2, where you will be tasked with managing our gas and oil boiler plant, which has recently undergone over $4.2 million in renovations. This role demands a mechanically adept, self-driven, and independent thinker who can effectively tackle assignments and contribute to the smooth operation of our facility.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will be tasked with the operation of boilers and associated equipment, which includes both initiating and deactivating these systems as necessary. This role requires you to manage the opening and closing of valves, as well as to monitor various indicators such as gauges, thermometers, and graphs. Additionally, you will be responsible for meticulously recording operational data to ensure the provision of safe and efficient heating, hot water, and cooking services for the facility. Your attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols will be crucial in maintaining optimal performance and reliability of the heating systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hour work week
  • Work hours are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday - Saturday. You will work a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays as assigned. Working 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM qualifies for a $1.15 per hour shift differential.
  • Work hours during training are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • This position may require travel and overtime as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class C motor vehicle license.
