Job Summary:
An HR Generalist is a versatile human resource professional responsible for supporting a wide range of HR functions across the employee lifecycle. This includes day-to-day responsibilities such as employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, policy implementation, compliance with labor laws, employee relations, performance management, recruiting, and HR reporting.
A key area of focus for this role is talent acquisition. The HR Generalist will support recruiting initiatives by partnering with hiring managers to coordinate job postings, source and screen candidates, schedule interviews, and guide candidates through the hiring process. This role plays a vital part in shaping the organization's workforce and enhancing the candidate's experience. The HR Generalist also contributes to employer branding efforts, process improvement, and the development of recruiting strategies that align with business goals.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The HR Generalist serves as a key resource for employees and leaders, helping to foster a positive, compliant, and high-performing workplace culture while supporting the organization's strategic HR objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support all core HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and offboarding.
- Partner with the HR leader to support strategic growth initiatives, including organizational development, workforce planning, and talent strategy.
- Play a key role in talent acquisition by coordinating job postings, sourcing candidates, managing interview logistics, and ensuring a positive and efficient hiring process.
- Actively source candidates and build talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs.
- Lead the onboarding process to ensure a smooth, engaging, and positive experience for new employees.
- Partner with managers to coordinate and support employee check-ins, ensuring consistent communication and early feedback during key milestones.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the employee handbook and support the consistent application of policies and practices across the organization.
- Assist with the research, implementation, and optimization of HR technologies and digital tools to improve efficiency, data visibility, and automation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Manage leaves of absence, including FMLA, STD, and other statutory and non-statutory leaves, ensuring compliance and timely communication.
- Respond to employee inquiries and provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and benefits.
- Support data collection and documentation efforts related to audits, federal and state reporting requirements.
- Support safety initiatives by promoting compliance, coordinating training, and tracking/reporting safety activities as needed.
- Identify and implement process improvements across HR operations.
- Help ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies.
- Support the rollout of HR programs, activities, and communications that align with company values and business objectives.
- Support employee engagement initiatives such as surveys, recognition programs, and culture building activities.
- Assist in coordinating training sessions, tracking participation, and maintaining training records.
- Maintain and manage accurate records of employee licenses, certifications, and regulatory requirements (including DOT), ensuring timely compliance and proper documentation.
- Coordinate notification processes to alert employees and managers of upcoming expirations and renewal deadlines.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing HR metrics to identify trends and inform decision-making.
- Support internal audits and assist with document preparation for regulatory reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a HR Generalist or similar role, covering multiple areas such as recruiting, benefits, employee relations, and compliance.
- High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and manage email/calendar efficiently.
- Experience using HR Information Systems.
- Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) for managing recruiting workflows.
- Demonstrated experience and positive results supporting talent acquisition efforts.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build trust and work effectively with employees at all levels.
- Proven ability to contribute to process improvement and drive operational efficiency.
- Comfort with data and reporting to support decision making and continuous improvement.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or other relevant HR certification.
- Prior experience in the construction industry.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk.
- This position may require travel between company locations, which could involve driving or other transportation methods.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of light materials, such as files, documents, or office supplies.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, such as computers, printers, and phones.
- Ability to move around the office to meet with employees or attend meetings.
