Another Source's client, Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver, is recruiting a Facilities Director to join their team.

Here's a little about Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver and the position they are recruiting for:

The WSU Vancouver campus's 351 acres encompass 6 miles of trails, forestland, fields, a BPA right-of-way, a portion of Salmon Creek, and offers breathtaking views of Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. WSU Vancouver is also recognized as a Tree Campus Higher Education institution. There are sixteen buildings, three of which are certified LEED gold, and three structures on campus that total 540,000 gross square footage.

About the role:

The Facilities Director is a key leader responsible for providing a safe, healthy and comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors and who strives to provide timely, cost effective and professional services that enhances the instructional, research and service goals of the campus. This position oversees physical plant operations including all buildings, grounds, utilities, custodial, environmental health and safety, space planning, the mailroom and capital projects. The incumbent ensures that the physical operation of campus meets budgetary and strategic objectives and is a liaison with government, regulatory and administrative agencies. The Facilities department has an operating budget of approximately $4 million plus varying levels of capital funds, and a workforce of roughly 45 full and part-time staff as well as student employees. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations and Enrollment.

What you will be doing:

50% Departmental management and supervision

    Directs, supervises, and evaluates department staff; ensures staff receives training related to safety, specific job tasks and responsibilities
  • Develops and monitors department budget; approves equipment and supply order; monitors inventory; requests capital outlay expenditures as needed. Optimize outcomes while staying within budget using effective oversight, tracking and planning.
  • Develops departmental policies, procedures and practices.
  • Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems.
  • Contributes to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them.
  • Provide direction, facilitate problem-solving and guide direct reports in effective

management and service delivery.

  • Ensure resource accountability and optimization. Oversee effective controls of people, equipment, inventory and resources.
  • Provide effective planning to achieve area/unit/department goals.
  • Provide cross-functional communication and collaboration for effective service delivery.

30% Leadership

  • Provide timely and cost responsive customer service while balancing stewardship of institutional needs
  • Create, implement, and manage a program to ensure the continuous improvement of the facility services.
  • Manage university energy policies through educating campus community and monitoring energy consumption.
  • Facilitate high-level coordination and problem-solving with customers outside division.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable governmental and university policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ensure that units provide excellent customer service to the campus community.
  • Represent department on select university system-wide and campus committees.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external government and regulatory agencies.

15% Project oversight and coordination

  • Oversee creation, implementation and management of a Preventative Maintenance Program (long-range and short-range), including assessment of facility needs and reporting.
  • Develops bids, and Request for Proposal (RFP) specifications, obtains quotes and supervises contracted
  • project work.
  • Develops and manages implementation of plans for capital construction, facility security and emergency
  • response.
  • Manage the campus' utility costs, including lighting, HVAC, water, sewer and garbage.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, construction management, or similar field. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience.
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications, including video conference, work order systems and enterprise resource planning systems such as Ellucian Banner or Workday.
